WHY SHOULD WE USE WATER WISELY

Water is an important and inseparable part of human life. Without water, there is no possibility
of life in this world because all living things, including humans, depend on water to survive.
Almost all human activities require water such as drinking, bathing, washing, cooking, and
various other activities. Water serves to transport minerals, vitamins, proteins, and other nutrients
throughout the body. The balance of body temperature will depend on water because water is a
lubricant for body tissues as well as a cushion for joints, bones, and muscles.

Clean water must be shared among 7.8 billion people, more than 300 thousand species of plants,
and 8.7 billion animals, not to mention for industrial and energy purposes. Thus, we must use
clean water wisely so that all the needs of living things and human activities are met and avoid
water shortages. About 70 percent of the earth's surface is covered by water. However, most of it
is water from the sea and only 2.5 percent is offered water or clean water

Based on data from the Indonesian government, piped water supply in Indonesia is only able to
serve around 21.8 percent of the current total population of Indonesia. LIPI predicts that all areas
on the North Coast of Java will become areas that have the potential to experience a water supply
deficit in the coming years.

This happens not without reason. The high level of water consumption along with the increasing
human population is one of the causes of the water crisis. In addition, other contributing factors
such as water wastage, water pollution, and deforestation that are still carried out by humans
without stopping, will eventually harm themselves and the surrounding environment. When
humans take care of nature well, then nature will provide abundant resources for them.

 Here are some tips for maintaining the quality of clean water in the environment.
 Separate the distance between water sources with latrines and garbage dumps of at least
10 meters
 Springs must be protected from pollutants
 Dug wells, pump wells, public faucets, and springs must be protected from damage
 The floor of the well should be waterproof (plastered) and not cracked, the lip of the well
and the walls of the well should be plastered and the well closed;

 And we can preserve water by, among other things:

 do not throw garbage in rivers or waterways.
 conduct reforestation or tree planting activities that can function as water retention and
storage.
 use water as needed.
 Minimize the use of chemicals
 Do not dispose of factory waste carelessly
 Regular checks of water pipes

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, there are several provisions for drinking water
that is proper and safe for consumption, namely water that has no taste, smell, or color, does not
contain bacteria, and does not contain chemicals that exceed the allowed limits. Get the benefits
of drinking water for health by consuming water regularly every day, and completing it with a
healthy lifestyle.

If left unchecked, clean water will continue to decrease, causing a crisis. Humans can only
survive 3 to 4 days without water, so forced to consume dirty water or salt. This will cause
various diseases and even death.
