Caselet 3

Ans 1:
Mr. Sharma should recognize the younger and new set of managers in a complete team
meeting and not separately.
Reasons:
It would motivate the young and new set of managers to work more and better than what they
have already done
It might bring about a competitive spirit in the older employees which could work positively
for the organization
Loyalty comes from satisfaction, by recognizing the effort put in by the younger set of
managers, it would help to increase their loyalty in the organization as well.
It would also help these sets of groups to interact with each other, it is only through
communication that biases and prejudices can be reduced. Hence this can be a medium to
communicate.
Ans 2:
Some of the steps that can be taken to balance performance and loyalty both in the
organization and bring the two sets together could be:
Creating work teams of multi generations in order to help them work together in harmony
Creation of Knowledge and experience sharing communities which would foster the
interaction between these 2 sets of groups and would help reduce the friction
Train employees to help them get rid of any kind of bias or stereotype. This would help them
to accept each other’s views and empathise with each other.
Reward mechanisms can be designed separately based on the generation. Flexibility, bonuses,
transportation rewards and other benefits can be designed to fit into each generation’s
preferences.
Counseling, coaching and mentoring can be done in order to ensure that the 2 sets of groups
understand each other and the fact that each group gets a new set of perspective and
innovation on the table which is important for the organization.
Reverse mentoring can also be used in order to help the 2 sets of groups to interact and learn
skills from each other.
