STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

To,
Visa Officer,
The Australian High Commission,
New Delhi, India

In this Statement of purpose, I am extremely delighted to present details about myself in connection to
my application for studying Master of Business Administration for Academic purposes at The Institute
of International Studies (TIIS), Sydney, Australia.

Introduction

I am Ms. Anamika Shah, a Nepali citizen and permanent resident of Gadhawa- 06, Dang, Nepal. I
was born on 8 April 1994 in Gadhawa- 02 Dang. My father’s name is Mr. Arun Bahadur Shah and
th

mother’s name is Mrs. Usha Kumari Shah. Regarding my family members, my father is a
Businessman who owns a business name Aniruddha International and my mother is a house wife.

I am a cheerful and optimistic person by nature with a strong desire to learn and applying it. I derive
satisfaction from dedication to my work and firmly believe that dedication is my true purpose. I
personally believe that the purpose of my life is growth and happiness which I think only our hard work,
dedication and commitment to work, family and study can bring. All in all, I want a successful life,
filled with growth and happiness both personally and professionally. I want to study Master of Business
Administration at TIIS, Sydney, Australia. For this purpose, my parents, Mr. Arun Bahadur Shah and
Mrs. Usha Kumari Shah, have agreed to sponsor me and my studies in Australia. Here within this
document, I am presenting myself in my statement of purpose and share about my life, my academics,
my financials, my intention for abroad studies, reasons for choosing my destination country and
education provider and my future plan.

Academics Achievements

There is a very high value of education in my family. Supporting me throughout the course of study
from the primary to the higher secondary level, my family has always been supportive and encouraging.
Enlightening my educational background, I had completed School Leaving Certificate (SLC) from
Innovative English School, Shankhamul, Kathmandu, scoring 89.75% in the year 2010 A.D. Soon
after the completion of SLC, I accomplished Higher Secondary Education Level (+2) from VS Niketan
Higher Secondary School in Management stream, which is affiliated to Higher Secondary Education
Board, Nepal, scoring an aggregate 76.6% in the year 2012 A.D. After completion of higher secondary
education, I decided to enhance my career in the field of Engineering. Hence, I joined Bachelor of Civil
Engineering (BE) at Himalayan Whitehouse International College, Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal,
which is affiliated to Purbanchal University by scoring an aggregate CGPA 3.02 in the year 2017 A.D.
Though it was a 4 year program, the program took almost another year to complete due to some internal
issues at the University.

I have studied different courses in undergraduate level like Mathematics, Construction materials, RCC,
Steel structures, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Soil Mechanics, Transportation, Engineering Economics,
Construction Project Management, Estimation & Valuation, among others. Those years of studies were
extremely crucial for me in shaping my thinking. During my study, I got an opportunity to know about
the engineering sector in general alongside basic knowledge of management and it also helped to
develop different skills like interpersonal, leadership, managerial, communication and decision making
among others. I have always been diligent, creative and sincere student throughout my educational
years.

Work Experience & English language Proficiency

I have been working as a civil (structural) engineer at MRB & Associates from July 2017 to till date. My
work experience helped me immensely to enhance my knowledge on the field of engineering section
and its tangential fields increased my knowledge about the company. I was always good with numbers,
software and excellent in explaining the things to the client. In fact, I also loved analysis of facts and
figures. As an Engineer, I was assigned different roles and duties in the organization like:
• Provide analysis and design for residential and commercial buildings
• Do the quantity surveys and prepare BOQs and rate analysis
• Provide advice on the design, planning and management of civil construction projects
• Provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/ deficiencies
• Provide with structural drawings whenever necessary
• Deal with the clients professionally, as well as prepare presentations for them whenever required
• Check and tally the VAT bills of different construction projects.
After a lot of deliberation and analysis, I decided to continue my further studies in abroad. For this, I
started to search for the Universities and Colleges. For this, I started preparing for Pearson PTE on my
own and took PTE Examination date on 21st January 2022. I was able to secure overall score of 90. As
my test score were excellent, I was eligible to apply for Master of Business Administration in TIIS,
Sydney, Australia.

Australia as my Destination Point

Australia has been one of the most preferred destinations for Nepalese and other international students.
It is highly selected for education because it has got over 22,000 courses across 1,100 institutions where
international students can easily find the school and field that are right for them. Australian Government
provides more than AU$200 million each year in international scholarships making it easier for us to
come and experience the difference (www.study in australia.com).
It is known worldwide for a fact that Australia is one of the most reputed destinations for international
students to achieve their future goals with a wide range of courses. Australia offers quality education,
globally recognized degrees which include internship programs where the students can implement their
theoretical knowledge into practical ones. Australia is home to plenty of prestigious universities that are
highly ranked and well-known around the world which directly gives us plenty of options to reach some
of the best professors and teachers. The Australian education system has been ranked 9th in the 2020
U21 Ranking of National Higher Education Systems, which is higher than Germany, France, Norway
and Japan. According to the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2022, 6 out of
prestigious top 100 universities are in Australia and there are 37 top universities in Australia
(www.timeshighereducation.com). Australia's seven cities are listed in the top 100 student cities of the
world. By the help of research as well, I also found that the Australian government is always committed
to ensuring the best education experience to international students. The cultural diversity, clean and vast
surroundings, friendly people, good standards of living, and high-quality education system have made
Australia the top destination for international students. Today, Australia has become the third most
popular study destination after the USA and UK while; it has become the first choice of Nepalese for
their higher studies. Australia is a multicultural dynamic country where students can live and learn with
ease and comfort. The Australian degree is globally recognized and the programs at the universities are
accredited, so I know I am getting high quality education from there. I strongly believe studying in
Australia is more convenient for developing and empowering ourselves as it is the most appropriate
destination for me.
Australia also holds ESOS Act 2000 (Education Services for Overseas Student) which ensures quality
education as well as secures investment of overseas students by monitoring and regulating any default of
registered education providers of Australia and overseas students. Besides this, Australia also provides
the Tuition Protection Service (TPS) as it provides a refund service to the international student which is
activated in the event that the educational institution is unable to reach the student’s course. To add, as
an international student I am liable to work 40 hours per fortnight in Australia which would be amazing
to get experience and know the work environment. But as I am travelling for my education, I will be
entirely focused on my studies and all my living, accommodation and tuition expenses will be sponsored
by my parents.
Australia promotes innovative, creative and independent thinking which helps to develop the practical
skills and intellectual abilities which we need for global success. I came to know that the graduates from
the Australian institutions are highly appreciated globally and are given more priority while searching
for a job in their home country. This is why I am ready to spend a considerable amount of money for my
studies in Australia as the qualification and education will be worthwhile once I succeed in my aim in
my country. Apart from that, Australian qualifications are recognized and graded high by the employers
all over the world. Australian universities and colleges are evaluated by the government to ensure that
they offer high-quality education. Hence, my research led me to choose Australia as my education
destination.
Reason for not choosing other countries (USA, UK, France)

Australia is regarded as secured destination for the international students as it is rich in multicultural
fusion of European Techniques, Food, and a place of Kangaroo, extraordinary beautiful place, low
crimes rate and so much more. Beside Australia, I have also researched other countries like the USA, the
UK and France for Master program. The United States of America is one of the most preferred
destinations for international students and a hub for education sector. Beside these aspects, I have not
chosen the USA for Master in Business Administration, as it consists of competitive admission process
with an unaffordable fee structure too. The USA Universities and college offers the scholarship for
international students but it is applied when the students get a good score in GMAT, GRE and SAT as
these courses mainly emphasize for scholarship schemes. Moreover, the tuition fee of every program in
USA increases every year. The USA Universities follow different enrollment / admission procedures
and a lengthy process too. Because of these reason, students need to do well in both academically and
socially, participating in activities that help community like volunteer work, science and art projects.
The reason I did not choose UK as it does not have ESOS Act and TPS services compared to Australia.
According to the news and reports, UK colleges and universities have a major problem with college
suspension and blacklisting. In one hand, it affects our studies while in another hand it puts our money at
risk. Besides these factors, there exists a very less chance for post study work (PSW) opportunity for
international students which help to add value to our career when we return back to our country. This is
also very important for international students to learn the real life experience in the field of related study.
From my opinion, International work experience is very important at this time because this can make us
more competitive when we return to our homeland and will make us more resourceful and independent,
which directly help to develop a better mindset and better communication skills and give us broader
awareness of the world and strong understanding of culture and business norms all of which are the
main reasons why we want to pursue western education in the first place. In Europe, France owns some
of the world best universities which are famous for higher education. France provides with different
facilities for international students but the cause behind not to apply France for Master of Business
Administration is because of its language barriers, limited program offered by public university and so
on. Most of the public university in France, the course is being taught in French language and the
international students need to be very careful while selecting the course. Public University does not have
huge number of program and in case if the international students do not find the preferred course then he
or she has to switch to private university which is costly. Most of the program in France is a theory
oriented and hardly the international students find the program based on practicality. Thus, these are the
ample amount of reason not to apply to USA, UK and France for Master of Business Administration.

Reason for not studying in Nepal

Nepal is a beautiful country and is rich in its natural and cultural heritages. In spite of its many positive
aspects, to a large extent it lacks higher standard of quality education especially in the higher level of
studies. There were few options to pursue in Nepal after I decided to do my Master of Business
Administration. I have researched on various education providers in Nepal ACE Institute of
Management (http://www.ace.edu.np/) and Uniglobe College (http://uniglobe.edu.np/) affiliated to
Pokhara University, Shanker Dev Campus (http://www.shankerdevcmpus.edu.np/), affiliated to
Tribhuvan University and so on. But all these colleges basically focused in incomes rather than quality
education. Similarly, it is an undeniable fact that Nepal is behind in offering modern and practical
knowledge in any of the universities or colleges at present. There are also some foreign University
affiliated MBA colleges in Nepal. The British College affiliated to Leeds Beckett University, NAMI
College affiliated to University of Northampton and Phoenix College and IIMS College are affiliated to
Lincoln University College. These colleges provide courses such as MBA, MBA (Executive), MBA
(Graduate) and MSc International Business Management. Even if the colleges have good courses and
student support; being international affiliated colleges I declined all these options. I did not choose
Nepal for Master of Business Administration because of its traditional education system, reputation and
recognition at international level; mainly the lack of international level of accreditation, quality of the
program, qualification and experience of the teachers, delay in exams and results and most importantly
the course structure which are not updated for years. The most teaching staffs are not well qualified
which will hamper our learning opportunity. I also realize that the programs do not include elective
subjects and disciplines to match the realities of the contemporary work environment. The education
system yet is not given priority to practical education which is the best way to learn better. And having
theoretical education only will limit the quality of education and we will not be work ready when we
graduate and this might affect me in long term. And the major problem studying here in Nepal is the
lack of accreditation for the program which doesn’t guarantee me the highest standard of education. The
lack of accreditation means that my degree and education will not be recognized by international
companies and that won’t be a desirable situation for my career later on. Besides all these, I also believe
that studying away from home will make me independent, confident and enable me to make decisions
on my own. The untimely results and exams that are not held as per the calendar month is another
problem that students of Nepal have been facing on a regular basis. With all these research I found
Australian education is the mixture of both and focuses on preparing us to be work ready upon
graduation. I also believe international degree and exposure to Australian environment will add value in
my career later and open door to better opportunities. And to me the foremost reason to choose Australia
at this time is to have an internationally recognized degree and for a chance to experience a different
style of education where new ways of teaching and learning with new ways and ideas will open my
mind and help me maximize my potential. By enrolling in an abroad study program, I will have a chance
to see a side of myself that I may not have been exposed to at home and that will help me grow
intellectually as well as socially. Thus, with all these research, I found Nepalese education system has
severe limitations and I want to be exposed and experienced in an international setting which can
prepare me for a better tomorrow. Thus, these are the reason not to choose Nepal for Master of Business
Administration.

Reason Behind to Choose Sydney

Sydney is the biggest city of Australia having highest number of international students. The environment
of Sydney is considered one of the best for international students providing them with best facilities and
the best quality of live. Sydney being one of the cities having people of different cultures will provide
me the opportunity to enjoy diverse cultures and lifestyles.
Likewise, the weather of Sydney is similar to my country Nepal i.e. temperate climate having warm
summer and mild winters. There are many reasons for choosing Sydney and some of them are listed
below:
• High quality education, research and technology
• Internationally recognized courses
• Best student life
• Lovely weather
• Modern facilities
• Cultural diversity
• Developed public transportation
• Safe and secure environment
In addition, I asked my friend who is already in Sydney as a student and I was happy to get a very
positive response from him. Also, Sydney is the home of many world-famous wonders such as Sydney
Opera House, Bondi Beach, The Rocks, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Paddy’s Markets, Darling Harbour, the
Blue Mountains and so much more. Many people from all over the world speaking different language
and having unique cultures reside in Sydney. This will provide me the opportunity to have a taste of
great cultural experiences that may help me to have a great time while I am studying. Indian, Greek,
American, Brazilian, Lebanese, Egyptian, Serbian, Japanese, Malaysian, Burmese, Polish, Thai and
many more festivals are celebrated in Sydney. Thus, there are many more reasons for choosing Sydney
and I hope my decision will work in my favour in the upcoming future.

Reason for choosing Master of Business Administration

From my childhood stage, I was always good at management skills. Business Administration will be a
personally rewarding and promising milestone for my career path. I even decided to choose Master of
Business Administration in Australia to further my career in terms of what I can do and better. An MBA
degree and studies would make me more equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary
to better analyze the different issues that come related with analyzing financials and managing a
portfolio. This program is designed to provide students with the technical, practical, analytical and
creative skills required to deal with management and finance issues in planning and decision making. I
believe, it will also hone my analytical skills with expertise level training in business administration
principles and cutting edge business applications. An MBA degree not only helps the students to gain
high level skills and advanced knowledge in business management and administration; but, it also gives
understanding and knowledge in risks, risk management, cost and management accounting etc. And a
career in Portfolio Management requires a holistic and broader understanding of Accounting transaction,
risk, markets, Information systems and other components of contemporary organizational models.
Master of Business Administration focuses on providing us training in the technical aspects of the
preparation of administration data and developing our skills in the application of business administration
information to solving problems and making decisions. It will also help me develop my knowledge and
skills in related professional disciplines such as finance, human resource, Entrepreneurship, statistics
and research. To me Business Administration entails not only the analyzing and knowing the condition
of a business organization but it also entails make the organization grow and get better by applying
many innovative and creative decisions. Business Administration generally educates us in knowing how
well a company is running and what parts of it are functioning well and which parts are not. I grew up in
Nepal which is a dynamic and fast growing economy and which has made me realize that understanding
and applying better business practices will produce great results because of the state of the Nepalese
economy. My background, my passion and especially my experience has led me to believe that business
administration as a whole is crucial for any business because it helps access and analyze an organization
fully. And with that state of mind, I am seeking further education to grow my career in Business
Management. I also found that there is severe lack of skilled professionals in the field of business sector
so demand for this profession is pretty high here in Nepal. Most of the business owners and employees
lack in-depth knowledge and skills, lack effective communication, are not cross-culturally aware and so
on. They also don’t have sufficient knowledge on business laws and rules to maintain their business. I
believe, my degree and knowledge in Business Administration will enrich my life with better technical
and practical skills and will give me an advantage towards a better career in Business Management. I am
motivated to study Masters of Business Administration because I know that in an ever-changing reality
of the business environment, I need to upgrade my own expertise and professional abilities in the field.
Studying Master of Business Administration will take me closer to achieving my dream and help me
become a better project manager of a company and a better investments related decision maker in any
organization. This program will help me give a better shape on my thinking and help me develop general
and technical understanding of diverse functions related to an organization and which in turn will help
me make better analysis and decisions. Thus, with all these research and realizations, I have decided to
study MBA in The Institute of International Studies, Sydney, Australia.

Reasons for Choosing The Institute for International Studies

Right after I chose Australia for my higher studies in MBA program, I started looking for the best suited
and favorable universities that would meet my requirements. I took the help of different search engine
like Google, Wikipedia, study portals, universities websites and also different seminars that were
organized by various education consultancies here in Nepal. The search came to the halt when I get to
know about The Institute of International Studies in Sydney. TIIS was established in 2015 as part of the

its Master of Professional Accounting and Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting courses to
fruition. In 2017, TIIS was formally accredited by the Australian Government’s Tertiary Education

TIIS is proud of its concise and comprehensive academic learning center with multiple copies of all texts

academic world. All students will have 24-hour internet access to the digital resources of the learning

support the learning process. All rooms are quiet, spacious and enjoy natural light. TIIS also provides on

experience city living with access to transport, shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, which all these
beautiful cities offer. Thus, these are the ample reason for me to choose TIIS for Master of Business
Administration.

Why not other University/Colleges?

On the other hand, after finding the favorable destination for the further studies, it was a time to search
for the university/college as my desired needs and requirements, necessities and objectives. So, I started
looking for the colleges for the Master of Business Administration. I found lot of university offering the
post graduate program and the Universities are Deakin University (http://www.deakin.edu.au), La Trobe
University (https://www.latrobe.edu.au), University of Tasmania (http://www.utas.edu.au), Macquarie
University (http://www.mq.edu.au) ,Swinburne University of Technology
(https://www.swinburne.edu.au) and TIIS (https://tiis.edu.au) where I selected The Institute of
International Studies as the affordable University. Among all these Institutes in Australia, I choose The
Institute of International Studies based on affordable tuition fee structure, course contents, ample options
to choose the electives units, easy to obtain the scholarship, update learning platform for international
students, international student support services, Careers and Employment Centre, Equity and Social
Inclusion Office, Student Advisors, student exchange, different sorts of assistance for international
students and the program is recognized as Certified Practicing Accountants Australia (CPA Australia).
The other similar course and the universities that I researched are Master of Business Administration at
Deakin University which cost AUD $ 34,000 annually, Master of Business Administration at La Trobe
University which cost AUD $ 42,000 annually, Master of Business Administration at University of
Tasmania which cost AUD $ 34,950 annually, Master of Business Administration at Macquarie
University which cost AUD $ 40,800 annually respectively. I personally find the tuition fees of Deakin
University, La Trobe University, University of Tasmania, Macquarie University, are quite pricey.
Moreover, Deakin University do offers the scholarship to international students but those scholarship
criteria on the basic of academies performance, outdoor games performance which I found force me to
look for next possible options. La Trobe has the limited core and electives subjects for Master of
Professional Accounting and the scholarship schemes are very confusing for me. Master of Professional
Accounting at University of Tasmania offers the electives units based on locations. Beside these
acceptable factors, TIIS offers the huge reachable opportunities in accounting sectors and helps to
become a career oriented students. The Total Tuition fee for Master of Business Administration at
TIIS is AUD $ 35,450. Moreover, it has the Equity and Social Inclusion Office which seeks to ensure
the students experience at TIIS is free of discrimination and provide an equal opportunity. TIIS has the
student advisor which looks after the questions or problems with concern course. I read some of the
stories of the college students and I got really impressed by how the institute allows for so much room
for growth just by eliminating the rigidness in the system. Hence, for all these reasons I came to choose
The Institute of International Studies.

is in engineering sector and hence I would like to come back and start my career working on for the
Construction industry. My ambition is to work in a top level project manager position in the construction
industry of Nepal. I would like to resume my work at the company where I am currently working at, i.e.
MRB & Associates. There are other various A level companies too, where I am interested in working in
future, like Raman Constructions (http://ramanconstruction.com/), Kalika Constructions
(http://www.kalikagroup.com/), Tundi Construction (https://tundigroup.com.np/), so on. Not only that, I
can also get job at reputed financial institutions such as Nepal Bank

good qualifications and as I will be holding an Australian qualification there will be no problem to find a
professional job. Some of the portals in Nepal
are https://merojob.com/, https://kantipurjob.com/, https://www.kumarijob.com/, etc. My desire is to live
in my own country and making a career in the presence of my family and friends. I believe my interest
and passion for numbers, analytics along with the knowledge of engineering field will be a potent
combination with my Master of Business Administration degree that will allow me to utilize my
strengths and have a successful career. Construction and Financial field is a growing field in Nepal and
the demand for Project Managers especially with a degree from the Australia remains high. Business and
engineering sector is growing leaps and bounds in terms of corporate expansion and entrepreneurial
activity and my line of work in which I am interested and my MBA degree will allow me to assess the
company’s financials as well as take into account various other economic factors of the client. I can
develop my own models for assessment which will allow me to have leverage in the market. I hope
studying Master of Business Administration at TIIS and Australia will also provide me a good platform
to better manage the state of affairs of a business, understand the financial markets and institutions test
my managing skills and also obtain solid credentials. I also dream of owning a construction company
someday that will focus in providing construction services and advisory services to small and medium
businesses but I know I first need a solid industry experience and a deep know-how of the financial
systems in Nepal before I take a plunge into it.

Incentives to return back to Nepal

I am applying for my temporary student visa to study in Australia and want to develop skills,
opportunities and competencies in the near future. With globalization, the value of international
qualification has been increased due to its better exposure than just studying in a developing country like
Nepal. So, I have applied to gain the chosen course from Australia to support my career planning
because of its wide range of value creation in future. As soon as I complete my study, I will surely come
back to my home country because I have huge responsibilities here towards my parents and I can have a
successful career here. Initially I will join my parents as they will be awaiting me. My entire relatives
and friends circle is here so I cannot imagine my successful life and career without the support of them
and without the surrounding of them. I have always been an obedient, sincere and hardworking person
so that my life can be useful and meaningful to me and to my people. After all the excitement that I have
for my higher education, we will be returning back to our home country as soon as my degree is
completed because my families reside here in Nepal and I still have a big responsibility to look after my
families.

Also, I am already working at a reputed company, MRB & Associates, which is considered one of the
best engineering firms all over Nepal. With my post graduate degree from Australia, I can easily get
appointed in the project manager role at my company or any other renowned engineering firm.
Moreover, I could be earning 75k to 90k, which is equivalent to AUD $1000, by getting appointed as a
project manager. I am aware of all the opportunities and possibilities that await me in Nepal after I
complete my MBA. Hence, I will be returning to Nepal after the completion of my study.

Regarding Living Arrangements:

As far as concerned to my accommodation, I will be arranging myself in Sydney. I have been visiting
few websites of various student accommodation providers such as: flatmates.com.au/student-
accommodation/Sydney and www.living-cost.html.student. I found the rent per week is 100 AUD-200
AUD per week, which is affordable amount for me. I have done detail study about the weekly rent if I
stay at Arncliffe I will have to pay 180 AUD, if I choose Rockdale I will be paying 160-170 AUD per
week, likewise if I choose Strathfield I will be paying up to 230 AUD per week. I have planned to stay
in one of the hostel as mentioned above and after I get adjusted in the city I will move to the apartments
with some of my friends
