Quartzene® – Next Generation Aerogel

Quartzene Aerogel main properties: Safe touch

The worlds lightest solids – usually 95-99%

air by volume
Low density – usually 0,05-0,12 kg/dm3
Super insulators – low thermal conductivity
Fire retardant
How can Svenka Aerogel add value to your business?

1. Safe touch coatings Safe Touch Personnel Protection Insulation System

• Personnel protection from getting burned
• Heat retention Certain equipment and piping may reach temperatures creating burn hazards
pipe, storage tanks, valves…. (71ºC> and above). If these are in the touchable vicinity of walkways, stairways,
passage ways, ladders or maintenance areas, they shall be insulated or guarded
for personnel protection

2. Anti-condensation coatings/plasters
• Prevents mildew growth

the porosity of the Aerogel improves the permeability Mildew growth

of the plasters which allows the coating to breath,
avoiding water vapor being trapped in the coating.
condensation
due to the low conductivity of the Aerogel, heat
exchange between the plaster and the surrounding is
minimized, preventing condensation build up on the
surface of the wall.

4. Lightweight thermal and acoustic insulating cement

Conventional solution for thermal and acoustic insulation

for homes and commercial buildings, requires thick walls

Cement with Quartzene will increase the thermal insulation

property of walls and help lower the travel of the sound
through the walls.

Quartzene® – Next Generation Aerogel

Produced from the 2nd most common substance on earth

- Silicate
Amorphous and Non-toxic
Green production process – require lower heat and
energy to produce
Very low heat conductivity – excellent insulation
property
Very Porous structure – extremely lightweight
Offered in hydrophobic and hydrophilic form
Fire retardant
Quartzene® – Next Generation Aerogel

A dendritic microstructure in which spherical

particles are fused together into clusters.
These clusters form a three-dimensional highly
porous structure of almost fractal chains or
“agglomerate” with pores under 100 nm. The average
size and density of the pores can be controlled
during the manufacturing process.
The nano and mesoporous aerogel structure with very
little solid material together with the intrinsic
low heat transfer of silicate is the key to the
thermal insulating properties.
Quartzene has a pore-size less than 70 nm,
restricting the air molecules to move and collide.
This limits heat transfer to a minimum

Still air has high gas

conductivity and can
transport thermal energy.
Thermal conductivity & heat transfer
Convection: heat is transferred by mass movement of the fluid (gas
or liquid)
• Quartzene prevents net gas movement through the lattice

Conductivity: heat is directly transferred by the material without

mass movement
• Quartzene is mostly composed of insulating gas, silica aerogels
are especially good since silica is a poor heat conductor

Radiation: Energy transmitted by means of electromagnetic waves

• Quartzene absorbs IR radiation and slows down the heat transfer
in the material matrix
