▪ He was born on 11 December 1969 in Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu.
▪ He became the youngest International Master (IM) in 1984.
▪ He won the national chess champion title in 1986, 1987 and 1988.
▪ In 1987, he became the first Indian to win the World Junior Chess Championship.
▪ He became India's first grandmaster in 1988.

▪ 1985 - Arjuna Award, Outstanding Indian Sportsman (Chess),
▪ 1987 - World Junior Chess Championship (First Indian to win)
▪ 1988 - Became India's first grandmaster, Padma Shri (youngest recipient)
▪ 1991 - Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratana Award
▪ 2000 - Won his maiden FIDE World Chess Championship. He won consecutively in 2001 and 2002
▪ 2001 - Received Padma Bhushan
▪ 2007 - Became World Champion again and defended his title till 2013 when he lost it to Magnus
Carlsen (current World Chess Champion).

Manas reserve has 2.4 Tigresses for Every Tiger
▪ According to the latest camera trapping assessment stipulated by the National Tiger Conservation
Authority (NTCA) the Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam has 2.4 tigresses for every tiger.
About Manas Tiger Reserve:

▪ It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

▪ The Manas Tiger Reserve is contiguous with the 1,000 sq. km Royal Manas National Park in Bhutan.
