Nuggets about Vishwanath Anand.
▪ He was born on 11 December 1969 in Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu.
▪ He became the youngest International Master (IM) in 1984.
▪ He won the national chess champion title in 1986, 1987 and 1988.
▪ In 1987, he became the first Indian to win the World Junior Chess Championship.
▪ He became India's first grandmaster in 1988.
Awards and Honours
▪ 1985 - Arjuna Award, Outstanding Indian Sportsman (Chess),
▪ 1987 - World Junior Chess Championship (First Indian to win)
▪ 1988 - Became India's first grandmaster, Padma Shri (youngest recipient)
▪ 1991 - Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratana Award
▪ 2000 - Won his maiden FIDE World Chess Championship. He won consecutively in 2001 and 2002
▪ 2001 - Received Padma Bhushan
▪ 2007 - Became World Champion again and defended his title till 2013 when he lost it to Magnus
Carlsen (current World Chess Champion).

India’s first global bullion exchange
▪ Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India's first International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) at
Gandhinagar’s GIFT city in Gujarat to bring transparency to the market for the precious metal.
IFSCA:
▪ PM laid the foundation stone of the headquarters building of the country's first and only International
Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) in GIFT city to develop and regulate financial services
in India.

▪ India is the world’s second biggest consumer of gold.

Manas reserve has 2.4 Tigresses for Every Tiger
▪ According to the latest camera trapping assessment stipulated by the National Tiger Conservation
Authority (NTCA) the Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam has 2.4 tigresses for every tiger.
About Manas Tiger Reserve:
▪ Located in Assam
▪ It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Note:
▪ The Manas Tiger Reserve is contiguous with the 1,000 sq. km Royal Manas National Park in Bhutan.

SCO Foreign Ministers' Meeting


▪ External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has called upon SCO to fight "new world threats such as
hunger and new types of terrorism" at the conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)
foreign minister's meeting in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Note:
▪ India would take over the SCO Presidency in 2023.
▪ SCO Summit 2022 would be held on September 15-16 in Samarkhand, Uzbekistan.

New logo in TN Police Uniforms
▪ For the first time in the Police Department of Tamil Nadu everyone from the constable to the DGP is
going to have the same uniform logo.
▪ The logo includes the tag "Tamil Nadu Police", "Truth alone Triumphs" in English and "kaaval (காவல்)"
in Tamil in addition to the already existing logos of Srivilliputhur Gopuram, Asoka Emblem and National
Flag.

Global Tiger Summit


▪ The Tamil Nadu government will organize the ‘T.N. Global Tiger Summit’, in partnership with the
Government of India, in Chennai in October 2022.
▪ According to National Tiger Conservation Authority Tamil Nadu was home to nearly 10% of India’s
Tiger Population, with 264 tigers.

Chaturangam — A Dance Depiction


▪ Chaturangam — A Dance Depiction is a video that showcases the game of chess through the medium
of Tamil Nadu’s folk-art forms such as ‘Therukkoothu’ and ‘Poi-kaal kuthirai’ and martial arts like
‘Malyutham’ and ‘Silambam,’ besides the classical Bharatanatyam dance.
▪ The was released by the Pudukottai district administration to mark the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad.
