1. TITLE: Philippine Medical Technology Act of 1969
2. DEFINITION OF TERMS: 8 terms
 Medical Technology – auxiliary branch of lab medicine which deals w/ examination by various chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic and
other medical lab procedures or technic which will aid physician in diagnosis, study and treatment of disease and in promotion of health
in general
 Pathologist – duly registered physician who is specially trained in methods of lab medicine, of gross and microscopic study and
interpretation of tissues, secretions and excretions of human body and its functions in order to diagnose disease, follow its course,
determine the effectivity of treatment, ascertain cause of death and advance medicine by means of research
 Medical Technologist – person who engages in work of medical technology under supervision of pathologist or licensed physician
authorized by DOH and who having passed a prescribed course (BSMT/BSH) of training and examination is registered under provision
of this Act
 Medical Technician – person who not being graduate of BSMT/BSH, but having passed corresponding civil service examination,
performs the work of medical technology under the supervision of RMT or qualified pathologist
 Accredited Medical Technology Training Laboratory – clinical lab, office, agency, clinic, hospital sanitarium duly approved by DOH or its
authorized agency
 Recognized School of Medical Technology – any school, college or university which offers a Medical Technology approved by DepEd in
accordance w/ requirements under this Act, upon recommendation of council of medical technology education
 Council – council of medical technology education established under this Act
 Board – Board of Examiners of MT established under this Act

o PRC resolution 323: foreigners can take board exam

17. SCORE OF EXAMINATION
o Major – 20%
1st day: CC, Microbiology, Parasitology
2nd day: Hematology, IS, BB
o Minor – 10%
Last day: AUBF/CM, Histopath, MTL, Labman
o Schedule: prepared by Board and submit to PRC for publication at least 4 months (old)/ 30 days (new) before date of exam
o Board may change, add, remove from list of subjects or weights w/ approval of PRC and publication of change at least
o 3 months prior to date of exam
18. REPORTING OF RATINGS
o RA 5527/ PD 223: 120 days
o RA 8981: 10 days
o Board: report  PRC: submit  President of Philippines: approval
19. RATING IN THE EXAM
o GWA – 75%
o No grade in any major subject <50
o Not failing grade of 60% examination according to their relative weights
o No further examination will be given if not qualified after 3 examinations EXCEPT: completed 12 months refresher course or 12-
month postgraduate training
o If graduate of paramedical profession other than BSMT, no further exam will be given after 3 rd time to fail the exam
20. OATH TAKING
o 30 days after board examination
o Administered by: MT board w/ PRC or authorized person
21. ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION (COR)
o Cannot release if : <21 yrs old
o Issue of COR: 90 days after Board has fully constituted to graduates of BSMT in Ph or foreign countries w/ practice of at least 3
years in Ph labs accredited by: Bureau of Research and Laboratories, DOH
o 4 signatures: 3 MTB

22. FEES
o Accumulated every renewal: 3 yrs
o Not renewing: PRC res. 270 – 5 yrs – delinquent member  removed from list

 Renewal: 90 days/ 3 months prior to expiry
 Inspection: Every 2 years
 Changes in the Lab: Submit letter to DOH 15 days prior to change
 Lab request & reports:
- Consultation between Pathologist & Physician
- RMT: Only performs lab test
- All reports must be signed by the Pathologist before releasing EXCEPT in case of emergency even without patho signature
 Record Keeping:
- Clinical Lab Reports: 1 year
- Anatomic Reports: Permanent
