MODULE OVERVIEW:

This module critically evaluates concepts related to International Supply Chain


and Logistics Management. It enables the learners to recognise the complex
workings of the whole supply chain, and to coordinate and manage relevant
decisions within their own organisations. Operations and supply chain decisions
often require numerical analysis, therefore the module also entails the
application of quantitative techniques.

INDICATIVE CONTENT:

- Introduction to operations and supply chain management.


- Supply chain risk, strategy, ethics and performance.
- Sustainable supply chain including logistics operations.
- Operations strategy and Business strategy
- Principles of product, service and process designs including considerations
of supply chain, e-commerce and transportation modes
- Capacity management including lean management, empty running.
- MRP including forecasting, time series, correlation and regression
- Scheduling including theory of Constraints
- Performance measurement and improvement including Balanced
Scorecard, JIT and waste management.
- Materials and inventory management including ABC analysis and OPT
theory
- Quality management and improvement.

In relation to the specialised area of study, students will, with minimal
/ no guidance be able to
Subject-Specific Knowledge, Understanding & Application
a) Develop a deep and systematic understanding of the complex topics
related to the opportunities and constraints that organisational
characteristics place on operational managers within the supply chain
context.
b) Demonstrate originality and initiative in problem solving and an ability to
take decisions in complex and unpredictable situations in the
International Supply Chain and Logistics Management context.
c) Recognise and apply a range of technologies and quantitative analysis
techniques in an original way, which can be used to aid the decision
making process within the context.
d) Analyse and offer solutions to problems from an International Supply
Chain and Logistics Management context, making use of appropriate

software (including spreadsheets, statistical packages and/or project
management software) for analytical purposes.
Employability & Changemaker Skills
e) Communicate effectively with specilist and non-specialist audiences and
demonstrate sensitivity to responsibilities and contextual hierarchies.
f) Implement a sound solution to a problem for complex and inter-
connected scenarios.
