Communications Lab – Lab#4 – Report

(Muhammad Ahmed Shafqat – 24100094)

 In this lab, we learned about how to use SDR to catch signals with
frequencies in various bands (often so high that cannot be detected by
normal radios).
 Using SDR, we tried to detect different signals present in the lab
environment and analyzed it using spectrum analyzer in Simulink.
Attached are the screen shots of the results.

1. FM Broadcast Radio (88-108 MHz)

Some signals in range of 50 MHz are detected with center frequency 100 MHz. This
means that the FM signals were not abundantly present in the lab environment.
2. Personal transmitters such as automotive key fobs and garage door
openers (315 MHz)

A lot of signals are detected with center frequency 315 MHz. This means that these
signals were abundantly present in the lab environment.

3. Cell phones (various bands between 700-2500 MHz)

High amplitude signals are detected with center frequency 1600 MHz. This means
that these signals were abundantly present in the lab environment.
4. GPS (1227 MHz and 1575 MHz)

A lot of signals are detected with center frequency 1227 and 1575 MHz. This means
that the GPS signals were abundantly present in the lab environment.

5. WiFi (2400 MHz) & Bluetooth (2400 MHz)

High amplitude signals are detected with center frequency 2400 MHz. This means
that these signals were abundantly present in the lab environment.

6. High Definition Television Broadcasts (UHF channels at 470-806

MHz)
High amplitude signals in a long range are detected with center frequency 638 MHz.
This means that these signals present (but not abundantly) in the lab environment.
7. NEXRAD Weather Radar (2700 - 3000 MHz)

High amplitude signals in a short range are detected with center frequency
2850MHz. This means that these signals present (but not abundantly) in the lab
environment.
