CHAPTER 3

Research Design and Methodology

The research method, sources of data, and respondents of the study are
presented in this chapter. Likewise, the data gathering instrument, the research
procedure and statistical treatment of data was discussed.

Research Method

The study used the descriptive method of research through survey design in
identifying the teaching strategies and Methodologies utilized in the new normal of
MAPEH teachers in the secondary education in Daraga, Albay.
According to Calderon and Gonzales (1993), the descriptive type of research
gives enough description on the situation or connection of each variable in which one
individual can give information about a group of people or population that is exact and
valid. It also includes the "What" and "Hows" of research.
Furthermore, according to Sevilla (1998), it is also a design for researchers in
order to get information about the present condition. The present research aims to
describe the nature of the situation while it is happening during the research period and
discover the causes and actual events.

Sources of Data

The main source of data and information came from teaching strategies and
methodologies utilized in new normal of MAPEH teachers in the secondary education in
Daraga, Albay. They accomplished the checklist prepared by the researchers. Other
resources include book, internet, thesis, magazines journals and other form of print
materials which are useful for the present study.

Respondents

The respondents of this study were (50) MAPEH teachers in secondary

education in Daraga, Albay. Therefore, a purposive sampling was considered in

44
choosing the respondents to represent their teaching strategies and methodologies
utilized in new normal. The respondents were asked to answer the questionnaire-
checklist prepared by the researchers in an approved date of data gathering.

Research Instrument

This study used a questionnaire-checklist that has three parts which were
answered by 50 selected respondents.
PART 1: Dealt with the profile of the respondent's name, age, sex, track and
strands.
PART 2: Is on identifying the teaching strategies and methodologies utilized in
the new normal of MAPEH teachers in secondary education in Daraga, Albay. They
were asked to identify the factors pre-determined by researcher’s base from informal
interviews. An open-ended option was also provided to read as "Others"
PART 3: Was about the measures that can be done in order to help the MAPEH
teachers. The respondents were asked to list down measures which they think were
helpful to them and to improve the teaching strategies and Methodologies utilized in the
new normal situation.

Procedure

The following procedures were done to finish this study:

Conducted Research in the Library

The research students performed a research in the library. They read books,
magazines, journals, thesis, and others that were related to the present study.

Conducted Online Research

The researchers searched the internet to collect related data and information.
This helped them to acquire more knowledge as regard to the study which they were
dealing with.

45
Prepared the Questionnaire-Checklist

The researchers made a checklist to know the teaching strategies and

Methodologies utilized in the new normal of MAPEH teachers in secondary education in
Daraga, Albay. A checklist was made to gather data and information. The instrument
prepared was discussed to the research instructor for revisions before its reproduction
and distribution.

Request for Approval

The researchers made a letter-request before the administration of the research

Instrument prepared. The letter-request was approved by the College Dean, Mr. Melvin
M. Goyena Ph.D

Conducted a Dry-Run

After the approval of the College Dean, the checklist was then reproduced and
distributed to ten (10) selected MAPEH teachers. They were the first who answered the
instrument prepared to know its error. After which, improvement was done by the
researchers. Reproduction and preparation on the final copy was made for distribution
to identified respondents.

Distribution of Checklist

After approval of the letter request, the checklist was then disseminated to
selected MAPEH teachers. A total of checklists were distributed.

Analyzed the Data

The data gathered from the checklist were analyzed to identify the teaching
strategies and Methodologies utilized in the new normal of MAPEH teachers in the
secondary education in Daraga, Albay.

47
Statistical Treatment of Data

The following statistics were utilized to give exact and clear interpretation of this
research.
1. Frequency Count. To know the Teaching strategies and Methodologies
utilized in the new normal of MAPEH teachers, frequency counts were considered. This
was equal to the number of respondents who answered the checklist.
2. Percentage. To identify the number of MAPEH teachers who answered the
checklist, percentage statistics was used. Percentage is in accordance of suitable to ten
numbers (decimal places).
The formula in getting the percentage is P=X/N (100) wherein,
P = percentage
X = number of respondents who answered the checklist
N = total number of respondents
3. Ranking. Ranking statistics was used to know the Teaching strategies and
methodologies of MAPEH teacher’s in new normal situation.
