Blade Server

1. What is a blade server?

 A BLADE SERVER is a computer for Data Processing Centers and is designed to take
advantage of space, reduce consumption and simplify its operation.

2. What is the minimum possible size configuration in a standard server-rack?

 In a standard rack server configuration, the 1U rack unit (19" wide and 1.75" high) is
the minimum possible size for a server.

3. What is the principal benefit of blade computing?

 Blade servers are specifically designed to take advantage of space, reduce consumption
and simplify maintenance. This type of servers have a higher data processing and consume
less energy, since the different servers share both power and cooling.

4. What is the most common computer rack form-factor?

 Basic rack servers often use a 1U form factor.

5. What is a blade enclosure?

 This is a chassis or enclosure that houses multiple physical servers or blades within it.
The entire system is often rack mounted. Each Blade Server is a thin "board" containing
only microprocessor, memory and buses.

6. Describe the use of power in a blade server.

 It has a low energy consumption: As it is installed in a cabin that provides the electricity
for its operation, without using its own source, it does not spend more than what it should,
achieving that energy saving that is very important in data centers.

7. How cooling works in a blade server?

 Cooling: Each blade is cooled individually by fans. Additionally, because of their
stackability, the servers can be kept in smaller air-controlled areas that keep all of the
mechanical parts at a proper temperature.

8. What kind of network interfaces are included in a blade server?

 Blade servers typically include integrated or optional network interface controllers for
Ethernet or host adapters for Fibre Channel storage systems.

9. What sort of storage methods are used in a blade server?

 When storage is included per-blade, you can distribute storage across each blade in the
chassis. Most modern blade servers support at least two disk products.

10. Are blades server useful? Why?

Yes because blade servers are small circuit boards that act as servers within their server
enclosure. They are an excellent choice for high processing power in a dense environment
