This standard shall be referenced in other documents, drawings …as follows:
"B15 5050" (see paragraph 1).
3 Terminology
Definitions
Painting Fluid plastic material which forms an adherent and sustainable solid coating when applied in
thin layer on a substrate.
Paint coatings It builds of one or more painting layers.
The constitutive products of the different layers belong to the following categories:
Pre-treatment (for example: phosphating...),
Primary coating (for example: E-coat),
Intermediate paint (sealer, primer),
Topcoat paint (single coat, or basecoat + clearcoat).
These materials can be:
Solventborne or waterborne system, mono or bi-components (1K or 2K),
Sprayable or dip-coating,
Air-dryable or curable in oven.
Paint coatings A paint coating has to fill 7 physical performances resulting from 2 properties defined by the
performances functional analysis of painting.
Enhance the vehicle attractiveness to the eyes of customers.
physical performance: Appearance
Protect the vehicle from environmental aggressions.
physical services: Corrosion resistance.
Water resistance.
Mechanical characteristics (adhesion, scratches, deformation
resistance).
Stone-chip resistance.
Weathering resistance.
Chemical resistance.
Exterior and External areas: areas located out of the cabin, which are in contact with the ambient
interior part conditions. They are located outside the vehicle compared to the seals (doors, tailgate,
sunroof …) or inside some hinged panel (for example: inner parts of doors...).
Interior areas: areas located inside the cabin or inside the trunk compared to the seals.

4 General Requirements
This standard shall be accompanied by B72 0100. Its purpose is to define the general rules applicable between the
Group's Automotive Companies on the one hand, and suppliers on the other hand, for the supply of paints applied
to car-bodies or assembled accessories on vehicles (supplier's responsibility, approval of materials, control samples,
delivery and storage conditions...).
5 Requirements
Levels of requirements
5.1.1 Appearance Requirements
The appearance requirements are described in Table 1.

Specific Requirements
A different requirement level from those given in section paragraph 5.1. Levels of requirements shall be identified by
a letter and explained by a note.
7 Quality Control
Mass-production quality control
Frequency, number and nature of elements taken on finished cars for the painting film control are defined in technical
guideline 01379_18_00109 and 01379_09_00513
Painted plastic parts requirements are given by B72 0200.
8 Characteristics
In order to assess paint coating performances, several characteristics have to be evaluated, and their measurements
have to be performed in accordance with the quoted test methods.
These characteristics are evaluated with parts sampled from painted carbodies or, in the case of new materials, from
test panels applied with the same substrate and a painting system close to the production.
Concerning the painting in first and second run (reworking), the tested parts have to cool at least 24 h to room
temperature after baking before starting the tests.
Concerning repair and refinish paints or another low-bake paint, the delay before testing is 7 days.
Corrosion Resistance
These characteristics are valid only for metal substrates, such as steel plates and strip for example, see Table 3:
