RATIONALE:

Guidance facilitates people through their lives to manage their own educational, training,
occasional, personal, social, and life choices so that they reach their full potential and contribute to the
development of a better society (National Forum on Guidance, 2004). In line with this, Home Guidance is
dedicated to address the academic, personal / social, and career development of the learners in
developmental, comprehensive, and proactive manner. This shall be realized through the collaborative
efforts of family, family, school, community, government, and other institutions.

Homeroom Guidance is equivalent Class, which is just a part of the Information Services of
Guidance and Counseling Office (Villa, 2007; Mendoza, 2003). Aquino and razon (1993) defined
Homeroom Guidance as “an organized segment of the school’s guidance services, which is given to a
homeroom group usually a section or class with a teacher - adviser as facilitator”.

Homeroom guidance program aims to develop the ability of co- ordinating with the school
environment in the learners to create necessary awareness and sensitivity, so that they may select
themselves proper learning objectives, devices, and situations. It helps to shape a learner’s behavior
and instill enough discipline.

Objectives:

1. formulate, develop, implement, and monitor homeroom guidance program for the school;

2. conduct school roll out/ focus group discussion/ orientation about homeroom guidance policy
guidelines;

3. orient parents about the integration of homeroom guidance as part of the learning curriculum/
learning areas; and

4. evaluate/ examine the strength and development of the homeroom guidance program.

INTRODUCTTION

In accordance with DepEd Memorandum Order No. 155 s. 2020; Policy Guidelines on
the implementation of the Homeroom Guidance (HG) Program during Crisis Situation, stated
that the introduction and implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program necessitated
changes and revisions on existing DepEd programs to align them with the new normal
curriculum. The K to 12 curriculum puts emphasis on capacitating learners with skills in doing
tasks and enriching these as the progress up to Grade 12. The curriculum considers societal
factors and the learner’s developmental needs. They need to perform different tasks, confront
personal social issues, eventually decide for their curriculum exit. A responsive and proactive
program in addition to existing academic programs must address these needs. Homeroom
Guidance is comprehensive, developmental, and proactive program designed to equip K to 12
learners with life skills on three domains: Academic Development, Personal and Social
Development, and Career Development. SDO Cagayan Memorandum Order No. 204 s. 2021,
stated and RA 9258 Guidance Counseling Act of 2004.
