Title of Production:
Should Foreign
Languages be Mandatory
in Schools?
Client - BBC
The BBC (British Broadcasting Company) is the leading
broadcaster of the UK. It is the world’s oldest national
broadcaster and the largest broadcaster in the world by the
number of employees.
In this task, I have been challenged to make a radio programme
that is suitable for BBC Radio 4 and its target audience. This
means that I need to make something that would work on their
station and is something that they would approve of.
My deadline is December 14th 2022. As a result, I need to
manage my time around this.
Project Concept

My next production will be an audio production, taking on an

investigative radio show style. This show will be looking at
the debate of whether or not foreign languages should be
mandatorily taught in schools. This topic can be manipulated
to appeal to many people, since it would be something that
would revolutionise this country, if considered. Imagine a new
generation of bilingual people and how greatly this would
benefit our society and culture in the UK? I think it would be
such an interesting concept to investigate, with not just
short-term effects and impacts being analysed, but also the
long-term effects and impacts being taken into consideration
as well.

I want this piece to have an interview incorporated with a

languages teacher of some sort, since this is a person who
would be directly affected by this change, but also a person
who would have an interesting perspective on what this outcome
would be like and how it would affect education and society in
general. This piece will work better audibly, since I think
finding B-Roll and visuals would certainly be a struggle for
this topic.
THE WORK SUBMITTED FOR THIS PROJECT IS ENTIRELY MY OWN WORK.
NO WORK HAS BEEN COPIED, STOLEN OR PLAGIARISED AND NO ONE ELSE
HAS COMPLETED ANY PART OF MY PROJECT.
