1. What are the implications or impacts of discovering “fire” in ancient times? 5 points (not more than 30 words)

Fire control changed the course of human evolution, allowing our ancestors to stay warm, cook food, ward off predators and
venture into harsh climates.

2. Name one (1) household device that makes your life easier and how is life without this? What could be the positive/negative
effects of this device to the new generation? 5 points (not more than 30 words

The light bulb helped to establish social order after sundown, extended the workday well into the night. Negative effects
(heating dangers) Without the light bulb, there would be no nightlife.

3. Refer to the photo below. It is undeniable that “Agriculture” is one of the most remarkable inventions/discoveries of the
Ancient civilizations. What was life before the Agricultural Revolution? How did farming change people’s lives?

Hunter-Gatherers
Often nomadic, this was the only way of life for humans until about 12,000 years ago when archaeologic studies show
evidence of the emergence of agriculture. Human lifestyles began to change as groups formed permanent settlements and
tended crops. There are still a few hunter-gatherer peoples today. Farming meant that people did not need to travel to find
food. Instead, they began to live in settled communities, and grew crops or raised animals on nearby land. They built
stronger, more permanent homes and surrounded their settlements with walls to protect themselves.

What do you think life was like before this was invented? What kind of problems did the invention solve?

a. Before gas or electric lighting were invented, the greatest light source indoors usually
came from the fixed fire in the grate. Home activities revolved around the earth, with candlelight/oil lamps providing (but
mobile) light around the home.
The light bulb was invented for the purpose of giving off light. It was designed to produce a more consistent, longer-lasting,
higher quality light. The light bulb helped to establish social order after sundown, extended the workday well into the night, and
allowed us to navigate and travel safely in the dark. Without the light bulb, there would be no nightlife.
