Supplementary Feeding Program

The Supplementary Feeding Program provides children who are currently enrolled in
daycare centers with food in addition to the usual meals. This is provided to kids at
daycare centers during break times in the form of hot meals, as advised by the Food
and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI).
The feeding program seeks to offer youngsters in daycare facilities additional help
through meal program. Through intensive nutrition and health education, it also
strives to improve the knowledge, attitude, and behaviors of parents, caregivers, and
children enrolled in daycare facilities.
 Objectives
- The feeding program is intended to provide enhanced support through the feeding
program. In addition, it aims to improve the knowledge, attitudes and practices of
children attending kindergartens, their parents and caregivers through enhancing
health and nutrition education. At the same time, it aims to improve and maintain the
nutritional status of all target children and refer children's medical and nutritional
problems to medical units.
 Beneficiaries
- Children aged three and four who attend daycare rather than the Department of
Education's preschool are beneficiaries of the program.
The National Statistics Office's 2006 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES),
which found that 11% of Filipino families had income insufficient to cover their
members' dietary needs, prompted the implementation of this program. These
families can be characterized as food insecure and hungry. Supplementary Feeding
works to achieve Millennium Development Goal No. 1, which is to end extreme
poverty and hunger, along with Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, KALAHI-
CIDSS or Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of
Social Services, and Sustainable Livelihood Program.
