3DM1 - SPEAKING: The News & small talk – Thursday Oct 13, 2022

Part 1 - discussion.
In groups (the same groups as your project groups), you will discuss the news (domestic and
foreign).

Canvas of the discussion:

 Welcome by the animator


 Informal introduction (name, place of residence,...) and small talk
 Each participant tells briefly about his/her article on domestic or foreign news
 Short discussion
 Closing

A. Animator:

 Welcome and brief introduction


 Asks each participant how they felt after reading their article
 Asks everyone their opinion
 Gives the floor to all participants
 Takes notes
 Articulates participants' opinion and then asks if it is correct
 Concludes the discussion
 Must be able to make a brief oral report of each article

B. Participants:

 All participants have to choose and read an article


 Per group, each student must choose an article on a different topic (e.g., domestic news,
foreign news, economics, culture, etc.). At least one article talks about international
business.
 They explain concisely what it is about
 All participants have to give their opinion and listen to other people's opinions
 Everybody will all agree or disagree with other participants

Assessment:

 Involvement in the discussions


 Participation
 Fluency
 Correct use of vocabulary in relation to the chosen theme.
 Correct small talk

The discussion will last +/- 30 minutes.

During the last 10 minutes the students will prepare a news item per group.

Part 2 - TV broadcast: The news

 After the oral exercise, each group will prepare a news item with the different topics - either
in the form of a television debate or as a classic TV news item.
 Part of the news item should deal specifically with international business.
 Each group makes a video that is sent to the teacher. Everyone has to speak, people can also
be questioned.
 If time, during a following lesson the videos are shown in class, followed by a short feedback.

 Fluency
 Correct use of vocabulary in relation to the chosen themes
 Grammar
 Creativity
