How to download KOMTRAX Plus data wirelessly with laptop which


does not have software access point (SoftAP) feature

1. Applicable machines
All KOMTRAX Plus machines with onboard wireless LAN (WLAN) modem

2. Purpose
Introducing 2 types of countermeasures to download KOMTRAX Plus data wirelessly
with laptop which does not have SoftAP feature. (Shown in Step 4. and 5.)

3. Details of current situation


OK: Windows 7, 8 with SoftAP Rev1 feature allows "Network Config Tool for SoftAP" start
and field technician can download data wirelessly.

4. Countermeasure A (Setup physical Wifi Access Point)

4.1 Configure Physical Wifi Aaccess Point adaptor
(1) Connect laptop, PoE adaptor and WLAN modem. PoE

** This procedure is using ubiquiti BULLET M2 as an example which is same model as


WLAN modem fitted on HD1500-8. For detail settings on BULLET, please follow BULLET
instructions.

Note: In case of using WLAN modem with Komatsu part number as access point for
laptop, WLAN modem need to be reset back to manufacturer default setting.

4.1.1 Configure PC to access to WLAN modem setting screen


(1) Open "Network and Shareing Center" and click on "Change adaptor settings". Reset button
(2) Select the Local Area Connection (Ethernet), right click it and select Properties.
(3) Select Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4), and click Properties.
(4) Configure IP address: 192.168.1.100 and Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

4.1.2 Access WLAN modem setting screen thru web browser


(1) Launch your web browser. Enter https://192.168.1.20. (default BULLET's IP address)
(2) Click "Continue to this website (not recommended)"
If you cannot proceed to the below page, please check the following items
a. Check firewall setting and turn off if required
b. You may need to turn off proxy server setting, if you set up any
** Please follow your company ICT policy for any security settings
(3) Log in configuration screen. User Name: ubnt, Password: ubnt
(4) Select country to use this WLAN

4.1.3 Configure WLAN modem thru web browser (Wireless setting)


Basic Wireless Setting
(1) Set up Wireless Mode: "Access Point"
(2) SSID: "0002KPLUS"
(3) Channel Width: "20 MHz"
(3) Output Power: (automatically ajusted by country setting at log-in screen)

(7) You will get the below pop-up and need to change password (whatever you want) from
default password to apply all changes in this step

**Note: Remeber User name / Passward which you newly set up.

4.1.4 Configure WLAN modem thru web browser (Network setting)

(2) Disable Network: "None"

(7) If you get the below popup, please click "Apply" to apply the changes.

Configuration of physical Wifi Access Point is completed.


In the next step, you need to set up your laptop to carry out KOMTRAX Plus (Ver.1 and Ver.2) data
download thru this Wifi Access Point

4.2 Download KOMTRAX Plus data Wirelessly thru Wifi Access Point
4.2.1 Configure your laptop IP address setting to download data thru Wifi Access Point

(1) Configure your laptop TCP/IPv4 setting on (4) Add the following IP address, and Click "Add"
Ethernet connection as shown below.
IP address: 10.1.28.XXX
IP address: 192.168.28.XXX Subnet mask: 255.0.0.0
Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 Rev1 ** This IP address is for UM600
** This IP address is for UM500
(5) Comfirm 2x types of IP addresses have been

4.2.2 Run PC Tool (Data Collection Tool) to carry out downloads

Before carrying out downloads, please make sure the followings.


a. Complete PC set up correctly first (Step 4.2.1)
b. Make sure physical AP (Bullet) is connected to your computer
c. Make sure the target machine is key ON for a while (at least 1 min.)
d. Turned off firewall setting on your computer, if required
e. Get closer enough to machine (Distance would vary depending on conditions)
** Please be aware of surrandings and follow safety instructions of machine and working area

(1) Launch Data Collection Tool


(2) Select "Download/ Data Download from UM600/UM500 via WLAN/Ethernet"
(3) Select target machine at Discovering screen.
(4) Click "Select" to start download
(5) Download completed and click "OK" to close PC tool

Tips: If your physical AP is working and communicating correctly, you can confirm wireless signal
strength in web screen as shown below.

5. Countermeasure B (Mobile Wifi router)

specification of mobile wifi router and select device under your responsibility.
** When you use commercial mobile wifi router, please follow its manuracturer instructions and any
laws/regulations in your country and regions.

5.1 In case of D-LINK DWR-730 (Example #1)


(1) Set up IP address (IPv4)
(2) Set up DHCP Server as shonw below
(3) Configure Wifi Settings
For UM600 (K-Plus ver.2)

5. Countermeasure B (Mobile Wifi router)

5.2 In case of NETGEAR AirCard 785 (Example #2)


(1) Set up Router Network. Setting > Router > Basic
a) IP address:

5.3 Download KOMTRAX Plus data wirelessly thru mobile Wifi router

5.3.1 Turn on your mobile Wifi router

5.3.2 Connect to Wifi network "0002KPLUS" on your laptop

SSID: 0002KPLUS
Key: (As per manuals)

5.3.3 Run PC Tool (Data Collection Tool) to carry out data downloads

Before carrying out downloads, please make sure the followings.


a. Complete mobile wireless router setups correctly first (Step 5.1 or 5.2)
b. Make sure Wifi connection ("0002KPLUS") connected
c. Make sure the target machine is key ON for a while (at least 1 min.)
d. Turned off firewall setting on your computer, if required
e. Get closer enough to machine (Distance would vary depending on conditions)
