From my knowledge democracy is a form of government that empowers the

people to exercise political control, limits the power of the head of state, and
ensures the protection of natural rights and civil liberties.

Abraham Lincoln said, "Democracy is a rule of the people, for the people and by

the people". It means that democracy is a form of government in which the
citizens of the country elect the Government to rule the country and the elected
government work for the welfare of the people.

But According to Dewey, Democracy is not only about extending voting rights but
also equipping citizens with the ability to take on the responsibility to make
informed, intelligent choices and decisions leading to the public good. He believed
that democracy is not just a political system but an ethical ideal with active
informed participation by citizens. Established beliefs and theories should be
critically questioned and revised in the light of developments, pragmatically
evolving to meet the needs of changing times. If democracy is to work it required
informed, knowledgeable and wise citizens and, therefore, education has a moral
purpose.

Dewey’s argument on the democracy emphasizes on the betterment of the

humanity. In his view a democratic educated human will not only knowledgeable
and wise but also he/she will be able to participate together in the betterment of
human being.
