ABSTRACT

GUPTA EMPIRE

The Gupta Empire was an ancient indian empire which existed from the early 4th
century CE to late 6th century CE.It was founded by Sri Gupta popularly known as
Chandra Gupta -1.It covered much of the Indian subcontinent The Guptan period is
known as Golden age and sometimes also called as Classical age.The Guptan
empire was called as Golden Age of India mainly for its advances in
science,emphasis of Classical music,art,and literature.The Gupta Empire stretched
across Northern,central and parts of Southern India between 320 and 550 CE.The
Gupta empire was known for its development in architecture,rock cut and developed
the religion Hinduism through different systems of belief in which the citizens
believed in.Thier official language or court language was sanskrit.Takshila and
Nalanda were both established during the Gupta empire, under the rule of Kumara
Gupta-1.They also created decimal system of notion,great sanskrit epics etc.The
Guptan empire ended in 550 CE,when it disintegrated into regional kingdoms after a
series of weak rulers and invasions from east,west,and north.They are not only
architects but also gave access to free medical aid to the people in need.They were
the first to provide free medical aid and to establish hospitals free of cost. In this
project I will discuss about the best and the most weak rulers of the times of gupta
empire along with the first rulers Chandra Gupta 1 to the very last ruler
Skandagupta.And will also talk about the official language of their time.And the
reasons why guptan empire is called as the Golden Age or the Classical Age.We will
also come across the powerful and useful inventions and laws made by the strongest
rulers of the kingdom.And also how the economy faced problems because of the
ruling of the weak kings.And we will also know about the invention of different types
of coins at that time with different rulers on them.There are a lot of Gupta
Achievementsto be discussed such as engraved coins,inscribed pillars,and they set
stage for artistic talent in music etc.They also built Stupas,Chaityas,
maths,temples,and other statues.Finally I will conclude with the total summary and
the decline and the reasons for the decline of guptan empire.Along with the
loopholes of few administrative methods followed by few rulers which led to their
decline or failure in administration.
