Introduction
• The United Kingdom, also called the U.K., consists of a group of
islands off the northwest coast of Europe. It is a unique country made
up of four nations: England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Geography
England
England is a territory located in the
southern part of the United Kingdom.
England borders Scotland to the north; by
Wales, the Irish Ocean and the Atlantic Sea
to the west; the North Ocean to the east;
the English Channel to the south and the
Celtic Ocean to the southwest.
Wales
In the east, the border with England
extends for 160 miles from the mouth of
the River Dee in the north to the mouth of
the River Severn in the south. The rest of
the country is bordered by the Irish Ocean
to the north, Cardigan Harbor to the west,
and the Bristol Channel to the south.
Scotland
Scotland is Located in the northern part of
Great Britain, Scotland’s mainland shares
its southern border with England, and the
country is home to nearly 800 small
islands.

Ireland
Land Northern Ireland occupies about one-
sixth of the island of Ireland and is
separated on the east from
Scotland, which is at one point only 13
miles (21 km) wide.
