What is an Elevator Pitch?

 An elevator pitch, also called as elevator speech or elevator statement, is a short, concise,
and brief persuasive speech that focuses on building up a spark of interest in what your
company does in the industry to your audience or target market. This type of speech can
also be used in drawing interest towards a project, idea, or product. Just like an elevator
ride that lasts up to 20 to 30 seconds, an elevator pitch should also last only up to 20 – 30
seconds speech. This speech should be interesting, memorable and succinct. The role of
this pitch is not to tell everything about the business idea but rather sparking an interest.
It should be intriguing and attention-grabbing, making your audience wanting to seek
more information. Stating an interesting line would highly gain attention from your target
audiences. It can develop their attention to be drawn onto the speaker. Keeping the target
audience’s attention is not enough, hence this speech must be memorable on their end for
it to be able to allow the idea and topic of the speech in their minds. Yet, still keeping in
mind the time, it still must be succinct – clearly and briefly expressed and explained.
Why is it important to develop an efficient elevator pitch?
 Elevator pitch is created to spark up interest of the target audience. It should be intriguing
and attention-grabbing, making your audience wanting to seek more information on what
topic or company you are talking about. Developing an efficient elevator speech would
enable the target audience to draw more interest and attention to the said topic, like
company, or projects. It would also benefit the target audience to gain information in a
short span of time yet allowing themselves to seek more information from the elevator
pitch. Yet, persuasion is main goal of this kind of speech, it is important to reach your
goal in persuading your target audience with their needed information and knowledge.
Feeding them the right information and letting them hear the right words would be a vital
part of this speech. It means that the speaker considered how others would like to
perceive him in these situations. Given that elevator pitch only lasts up to 30 seconds,
making it efficient enables opportunities to open in just a matter of seconds. Making a
great impression is also one of the vital element in persuasion hence allowing the target
audience have a good impression on the company you are representing.
How do you know when to end a conversation and if your pitch was effective?
 After delivering your pitch, it is expected to hear something from your target audience,
may it be a positive or negative feedback. Both feedbacks are the results of how effective
your pitch was. Having a positive feedback, like asking more of the company or topic, or
having an offer for the job you are applying to, shows that your pitch was effective and
would lead you more to better opportunities. Yet, having negative feedback shows that
the pitch was not quite effective or you have chosen the wrong words. Maybe, your pitch
needs revisions and have rooms for improvements. It would also benefit the target
audience to gain information in a short span of time yet allowing themselves to seek more
information from the elevator pitch. Hence, ending a conversation right would also leave
an impact or can still spark an interest to your client or target audience. Finishing your
pitch with a call to action is a great way to end the conversation. This can include asking
for a meeting or expressing interest to the job offered. Be sure to thank them and ask for
their contact information. Ending a conversation with a concise and action-oriented
farewell, and gracefully end the conversation with a polite words and smile.
