BAGUISI, TIFFANY JANE J.

BSCE 3A
ASSIGNMENT 1

1. Why is National Structural Code of the Philippines important?

The National Structural Code of the Philippines serves as framework or guidelines
that ensures public safety. Its first edition was published in 1972 to provide a primary design
code in the country in guiding civil and structural engineers in the designing and assessment
of buildings and any other structures.

2. What is the main purpose of National Building Code?

The main goal of the National Building Code is to state a policy that safeguards life,
health, property, and public welfare in line with the principles of environmental management
and control. It is also to give a framework of minimum standards and requirements to
regulate and control their location, site, design, quality of materials, construction, use,
occupancy, and maintenance.

3. What is NSCP in civil engineering?

The National Structural Code of the Ph (NSCP), established by the Association of
Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP), is apparently MERELY a referral code (RC)
of the National Building Code of the Ph (NBCP). Since it is a code, it is a primary basis for
the construction, design, use, and maintenance of all buildings in the country.
However, it covers only buildings, towers, and other vertical structures, such as poles
and billboards. The NSCP lays out factors to serve as bases in designing earthquake-
resilient structure: seismic zoning, site characteristics, occupancy, configuration, structural
system, and height.

4. What is NSCP and why is it important?

The Philippine National Structural Code acts as a framework or set of rules to protect
public safety. In order to give civil and structural engineers in the nation a primary design
code to follow when planning and evaluating buildings and other structures, its first edition
was released in 1972.

5. Where is NSCP based on?

The National Structural Code of the Philippines scope covers the structural design of
the buildings in the Philippines. Generally, it is a basis general and earthquake loading
provisions. It includes provisions for steel, concrete, timber, and masonry design as well as
for estimating combined effects of dead, live, earthquake, wind, and other loads.

The NSCP is not a law, only the NBCP is the law (the SPECIAL law on buildings).

6. Why builders refer to the National Structural Code of the Philippines?

Builders are the enforcers of the above-mentioned code. Therefore, builders should
abide with it to avoid tragedy caused by fire, structural collapse, and general deterioration,
as minimum standards are followed to ensure public health, safety, and general welfare.

7. What is the use of the Green Building Code of the Philippines?

The Philippine Green Building Code (P.D. 1096) enhances the efficiency of building
performance by implementing strategies that enhance resource management effectiveness
and site sustainability while reducing the detrimental effects of buildings on human health
and the environment.

8. What is Republic No 6541?

It is known as the National Building Code of the Philippines, which provides for all
buildings and structures a framework of minimum standards and requirements by guiding,
regulating, and controlling their location, siting, design, quality of materials, construction,
use, occupancy, and maintenance, including their environment, utilities, fixtures, equipment,
and mechanical electrical, and other systems and installations.

9. How important are the codes of building structures in the practice of their profession as
licensed Civil Engineer?
Generally, standardization in fields like accounting, health care, or agriculture
promotes best industry practices that emphasize safety and quality. Building codes are an
important aspect of ensuring that buildings are constructed in a harmonized and consistent
way, while providing clients with the confidence that they are using deliver to specification.

10. What is structural integrity and how it is achieved in steel structure?

The ability of a structure to endure its intended loading without failing owing to
fracture, deformation, or fatigue is known as structural integrity. It is a principle frequently
applied in engineering to create products that will fulfill their intended functions and continue
to work for a desired service life. Professional structural steel welding techniques, as it
ensures that a building will have a solid and robust framework, are one of the many ways to
make sure a building has exceptional structural integrity.

11. Who wrote the National Building code of the Philippines?

The said code is a law that undergo hearings with different people concerned. Listed
contributors are the Task Force for National Building Code, Philippines. Department of
Public Works, Transportation, and Communications. It is published by the Department of
Public Works, Transportation and Communications in 1977, and was enacted as Presidential
Decree No. 1096.

12. What is the purpose of RA 9514?

Republic Act (RA) No. 9514, otherwise known as the Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008,
aims to ensure that adequate measures are taken to prevent the event of a fire and reduce
the risk of injury and death.

13. What is the National Building code?

The laws and guidelines that apply to the construction of buildings are contained in the
national building code. The government only approves structures that abide with these rules.
