4.06" 10/15M “DSW4/DSW6" 2 Door STRIPPER PACKER

1.0 FEATURES

The Texas Oil Tools 2 Door Stripper is the premier stripping tool available in the coil tubing industry
today. Texas Oil Tools strippers boast a proven track record in the field. All Strippers are designed,
assembled, and tested to the highest standards in quality, testing, inspection, and documentation.

The Texas Oil Tools DSW6 2 Door Stripper Packer is designed to pack-off on coiled tubing as it is
stripped in and out of the well, at working pressures up to 15,000 psi. This design provides two
independent hydraulically actuated packers within the same body. This unique feature allows the
operator to utilize one packer while the other is held in reserve; when first packer is unable to effect a
seal, the second packer is actuated. This ability effectively doubles the time between packer changes.
Changing packers is always easier, but it is particularly advantageous when changing packers with
tubing in the well. The stripper is designed to create a dynamic seal around the work string while
maintaining 15,000 psi full differential well bore pressure. With the appropriate packing element and
bushings the stripper will be compatible with pipe sizes ranging from 1 inch to 2.875 inches.

Note: 4.06 Bore extends only to bottom of lower bushing.

3.0 SERVICE

H2S SERVICE - All well fluid wetted alloy components to NACE MR-01-75, with Viton and Poly-Myte
seals. Hydraulic seals are Nitrile. Operating temperature range -20ºF. to +200ºF. Note: seals and
pack- off elements are available for higher temperatures.

NORTH SEA SERVICE - In addition to the NACE Specification s and API requirements additional
Charpy Impact and NDE are carried out. A Design Review and Certificate of Compliance by DNV,
Lloyds, or Bureau Veritas are furnished with the Data Book.

ARCTIC -50ºF H2S SERVICE - All well fluid wetted alloy components to NACE MR-01-75, with low
temperature o-rings and special Poly-Myte seals. Charpy Impact Tests at -50ºF and NDE on all parts
required by API 6A. Operating temperature range -50ºF. to +200ºF.

4.0 PACKERS - Reference Drawing ASSY-DSW6-0463-ASM

PREMATURE PACKER WEAR - The internal wear bushings above the packers are extra long, for
better centering of the coiled tubing and longer wear life. The single most frequent cause of premature
packer wear or failure, is worn bushings. At very low well and hydraulic pressures, worn bushings may
be useable. At higher pressures, it is essential that the non-extrusion rings and packer bushings fit
closely around the tubing to prevent packer extrusion. Bushings must be replaced frequently to
minimize any extrusion gaps.

5.0 PACKER REPLACEMENT

CAUTION: When pressurizing, ACLOSE WINDOW@ port. Ensure AOPEN WINDOW@ port is not
vented. As an overpressure condition can occur, causing o-ring failure.

Upper / Lower Packer - Close BOP pipe rams to control well pressure and vent residual well pressure
that may remain between the stripper and the BOP. Back out the two lock screws and open wide both
doors (36). Pressure up "RETRACT" port and fully retract piston (34/35). Pressure up "WINDOW
OPEN" port and fully open window exposing packer elements and seal (2). Remove non-extrusion ring
(2a) and energizer (26). Support bushing (35) and remove packer (2); remove bushings (3). Inspect all
bushings, packer elements. Replace as necessary.

Install bushing (38) & seal (15). Install and support bushing (35); install packer (32), energizer (33) &
non-extrusion ring (31). Pressure up "WINDOW CLOSE" port and fully close window. Close doors
(13); turn lock screws in until extended behind connector studs (9).

6.0 SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

After every job, remove the packer and inspect all accessible seals. Remove all trace of well fluids.
Once a month, remove the packers and bushings. Thoroughly clean all of the items. Grease and
assemble to proper technical manual.
Once a year, disassemble completely and replace all of the seals.

After two years strip down and perform NDE on parts exposed to well fluids, replace any worn
parts.

Rev / 13
P a g e | 6 of 24

Every four years in service strip down perform NDE on all critical items. Replace any worn parts.
Two Year NDE requirements:
All parts exposed to the well fluids will have to be inspected by NDE methods. The preferred NDE
test would be a wet magnetic particle testing. Not all parts can be tested in this method. If the
parts can not be inspected with MPI then a dye penetrant test will have to be conducted.

Four Year NDE requirements:

All parts exposed to the well fluids, loaded by well pressure or pressure containing will have to be
inspected by NDE methods. The preferred NDE test would be a wet magnetic particle testing. Not
all parts can be tested in this method. If the parts can not be inspected with MPI then a dye
penetrant test will have to be conducted.

7.0 DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURES

The following assembly Procedure should be performed only by competent personnel with the
complete knowledge of the well equipment. Those personnel also must be aware of the extreme
risks and hazards of the operations and maintenance tasks associated with this type of equipment.
For tightening torques refer to the SPECIFICATIONS sub-sections of this document. For a
complete bill of materials refer to technical manual D601000258.
A. PRECAUTIONS AND GUIDELINES.
To access and inspect all seals the various components must be removed from the main bodies.
Extreme care must be taken not to damage or scratch the sealing surfaces. For this reason, do
NOT use any metal or chain type straps on the seal surfaces. Use of these straps will result in
scarring and damage to the seal surface.
Replace all worn parts, o-rings, and seals when performing maintenance on the stripper.
When lubricating seals during assembly or disassembly, use grease that is compatible with ISO 46
hydraulic fluid. When installing Polypak seals always position the O-ring facing pressure. This will
create a positive seal.
Refer to drawing ASSY-DSW6-0463X-ASM for positioning of Polypak seals and M-seals.
Apply a light coat of anti-seize compound to all threads. Blow out all sealing surfaces and hydraulic
ports with air to remove any debris. Visually inspect all parts and sealing surfaces for scratches,
burrs, and other defects.
