Evidence Prior to the start of the
school year I had
conversations with the
teachers of the students
who had been here for
second grade. We
discussed what students
are ELLs, which students
may have certain needs
and some of the students
strengths and
weaknesses.

I also spent some time the

first week of school
observing studetns and
conducting informal
assessments to figure out
students knowledge in
writing and reading.

In mathermatics I
conducted a formal
assessment of student’s
previous knowledge and
used the data to see
where most studetnts
might need extra practice.

During lessons, I display
materials on the
projector. I make sure I
preview vocabulary
beforee the start of a
lesson. I use visuals and
videos when possible to
enhance student learning
and understanding. I have
students demonstrate
their understanding
through discussions,
partner, and group work.

interests.
Evidence During the first week
of school we spent a
lot of time getting to
know one another.
Students did various
activities that shared
their interests, a bit
about their family,
and previous
experiences. I use
this knowledge to
integrate when
possible into my
lessons to engage
students.

At the start of a
lesson I try to
connect the topic to
their experiences or
knowledge through

questions and
discussions.

I had conversations
with parents that
shared a bit about
their child’s life in
terms of what time
they wake up and
what other
commitments their
child is involved in
outside of school.

Evidence The school I am
working at now is
located in South
Korea and the
curriculum we are
following is based on
the United States; the
standards are AERO
Common Core
Standards that are
closely aligned with
the U.S. Common
Core.

I try to incorporate
their real-life
experiences by
asking questions that
can help connect
their knowledge to
the subject we are
learning about.
Standard 1 CSTP: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning
When previewing
vocabulary, or
introducing a new
topic I try and relate
it back to their
surroundings,
culture, language, or
experiences as much
as possible through
examples, or having
students compare
and contrast how the
topic we are learning
may differ from their
experiences.

introduction usually
will begin with a

students visually see

topic in more depth
before engaging in

I use the projector to

display the page in
our workbook when
we go over certain
topics for students to
visualy see where we
are working and
what we are talking
about.

I use different
instructional
strategeies
throughout my
lessons. Students will
be able to discuss or
talk about questions
that come up during
the lesson with a
partner or at their
table group.

I use centers in

Language Arts to
