INTRODUCTION

On March of 2020, the world took a sudden pause due to the Novel Corona Virus, better
known as COVID 19. The virus is believed to be originated in Wuhan, a province of China.
From there, it has spread widely all across and unknowingly infecting citizens. Since then,
the virus have been gravely a ecting people in di erent ways. Most infected people
develop fever, dry cough, and the feeling of tiredness as its early symptoms. Regardless
of it seeming harmless, it can actually cause death because the virus attacks the immune
system.

With the rising volume of COVID 19 patients, quarantine protocols such as frequent
sanitation, and observation of social distancing, have been strictly implemented. Yet,
there is still no denying that even if people are doing the extremes just to avoid the virus,
the numbers are still going up. This results to the exhaustion of healthcare facilities and
workers as the facilities for such a pandemic are not enough to accommodate the
patients. This caused well-known hospitals like The Medical City, Makati Medical Center,
and De Los Santos Medical Center to issue advisories after reaching its maximum
capacity.

I, as an architect, have here a quarantine facility loor plan to help aid this COVID 19 crisis.
I took into considerations of the health protocols while designing the loor plan to
e ectively maximize the use of this facility. Aside from that, I also wanted a facility that

could be built up easily, be lexible, and also made from readily available materials.
Below, you will see the inal output as to how the facility may look like.

Quarantine Facility Floor Plan

I have decided not to cram all 300 350 patients in quarantine or isolation facility. My loor
plan is designed to be made in three separate facilities in order to accommodate those
number of patients. While I may choose to just create one big facility, I didn’t do so as I
fear that social distancing may not be implemented well. To add, I wanted the facility to
be built in easily and as soon as possible. Making three, somehow small, facilities will just
be made faster compared to one giant facility.

In this facility, it caters to a total of 117 patients, each having their own beds. The facility
has 8 rows in total, with the irst row having 12 beds. The succeeding rows increase by 15
beds, all of which total to 117 beds. The facility may extend its number of columns as
indicated by the blue arrows. Though you may do that, this is not ideal as I explained
earlier. However, if there are a lot of space, you may proceed along. I wanted this design
to be lexible, but only to an extent.

I have designed the beds to have their own partitions and have a curtain as its door. This
is because I wanted each patient to have their own space in order to decrease contact
with any other person to lessen the spread of the infection. Still, I wanted it to be made
within budget so the materials may be made out of plywoods and gypsum boards as the
partition, and the curtain may be made from plastic or even recycled tarpaulins. You may
still opt out and use higher quality materials if you have the ability to do so.
