 FOREWORD
First of all, thanks to Allah SWT because of the help of Allah, writer finished writing the
paper entitled “English speaking skills”.

The purpose in writing this paper is to fulfill the assignment that given by Mrs. Pungky
Ramadhani,M.Pd.as a lecturer in intensive English courses.

in arranging this paper, the writer trully get lots challenges and obstructions but with help
of many indiviuals, those obstructions could passed. writer also realized there are still many
mistakes in process of writing this paper.

because of that, the writer says thank you to all individuals who helps in the process of
writing this paper. hopefully allah replies all helps and bless you all.the writer realized tha this
paper still imperfect in arrangment and the content. then the writer hope the criticism from the
readers can help the writer in perfecting the next paper.last but not the least Hopefully, this paper
can helps the readers to gain more knowledge about “English speaking skills”.

 CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the problem

Human life cannot be separated from language activities. Language is a means for

communicating between humans. Language is a unifying tool for the nation that is used by

people to communicate and interact with each other.

Someone who has adequate language skills will more easily absorb and convey

information both orally and in writing.

Language skills are needed in today's modern life. More communication will take place

orally in foreign languages. Language skills are a characteristic of educated people. Language

skills are a learning process that requires consistency in practice as well as in learning

English.

The more diligently a person practices his English skills, the easier the chances of

achieving the goal will be achieved. For this reason, we need to develop the ability to speak

English.

In the development of the English language, it is desirable to create an interesting

atmosphere so that we can develop our potential. One of the lessons that can be used to

develop our potential is to speak English and master all aspects of skills in mastering the

language.

But in general, the language skills taught so far are still using conventional methods

which are less interesting and boring. For this reason, a new learning strategy is needed that is

easier to understand by adjusting to the current developments.

DISCUSSION

A. Definition of speaking and language skills.

Speaking is a form of conveying information using words or sentences. In other words,

speaking means using language in various ways depending on the speakers.Speaking skill is

the ability to express opinions or thoughts and feelings to someone verbally, either face to

face or remotely.

B.Approaches, Methods and Techniques of learning to speak

Approach is a basic concept that covers a method with a certain theoretical scope. The

method is a description of the approach. In other words, the method can be defined as a

procedure or learning stage that is focused on achieving a certain learning goal. One method

can be used through various learning t Technique is the method used when the process of

learning activities takes place. In this case, learning has many techniques for learning

including interviews, speeches, paired stories, debates, hosting events, chairing meetings and

others.

C.Factors that support active speech

A good speaker must be able to give the impression that he has mastered the issue being

discussed. Mastery of a good topic will foster courage and fluency. In addition to mastering

the topic, a speaker must speak clearly and precisely.There are several factors that one needs

to pay attention to to be a good listener. These factors are verbal factors and non-verbal

factors.
1) Verbal factor
a. Accuracy of speech

Pronunciation of language sounds is considered ineffective if it deviates from the usual

spoken variety

b.Placement of pitch and duration

Placement of stress on words or syllables that are not appropriate will result in clumsiness.

c. Choice of words (diction).

Word choice should be precise, clear, and varied.

d. Accuracy of the target of the conversation

A speaker is required to be able to compose effective sentences, sentences that hit the

target so that they can cause influence or create an impression.

2)Nonverbal Factor

a. A reasonable attitude, calm and not rigid

Speakers who are not calm, lethargic and stiff will certainly give a less attractive first

impression.

b. The view must be directed to the other person

c. Willingness to respect the opinions of others.

In conveying the contents of the conversation, a speaker should have an open attitude, in

the sense of being able to accept the opinions of others, and be willing to accept criticism

and change his opinion if it turns out to be wrong.

CONCLUSION
 Speaking skill is the ability to compose sentences into information that is easy to understand. A

good speaker must be able to master the problem being discussed. Good mastery of the topic

will foster courage and fluency, of course, also balanced with consistency and strong

determination in learning it.

SUGGESTION
English, someone should pay attention to some of the existing theories so that it is easier for

someone to learn, start learning from small things and really really learn about it.
