SELF IDENTITY?

SELF- IDENTITY?

 Refers to the global understanding a person has of themselves.
Self Identity is composed of relatively permanent self-
assessments, such as personality attributes, knowledge of one’s
skills and abilities, one’s occupation and hobbies, and
awareness of one’s physical attributes.
 The Self Identity is not restricted to the present. It includes past
selves and future selves. Future selves or “possible selves”
represent individuals’ ideas of what they might become, what
they would like to become, and what they are afraid of
becoming.
 They correspond to hopes, fears, standards, goals, and threats.
Possible selves may function as incentives for future behavior
and they also provide an evaluative and interpretive context
for the current view of self.

WHERE PROBLEMS ARISE
IN SELF IDENTITY

 Each person view of the world is unique to them, and no one has a
perfect world view.
 In fact most people do not have a clear or conscious understanding of
what their world view is, they are vague on their rules to live a good
and productive life.
 This vagueness about their rules of how to live a good and productive
life is reflected in broken boundaries or a lack of preference for who
they are, what they like and what is appropriate behavior.
 Sometimes there is no preference at all which creates gaps in the
boundary.

Self-concept is the act of
respecting yourself.

 You must be aware of both your strengths and your
weaknesses.
 You must believe in yourself and accept yourself.
 As your self-concept increases, there will be less and
less that you have to prove to yourself.
 A person with a positive self-concept is pleasant,
secure, and content.

Positive Self-Concept

 Having a positive self-concept is the most important
factor toward success.
 By believing in yourself, you will gain the respect of
your peers.
 As a leader, to gain the respect of others, you must
first be able to prove worthiness to yourself.

has rewards.

 More confidence
 Trust in ideas, skills, knowledge
 The ability to capitalize on opportunities
 Using mistakes as a learning experience
 Being a more dynamic and interesting person
 Becoming more focused on larger goals

Negative Self-Concept

 Sensitive to criticism.
 Be responsive to praise.
 Tends to feel liked by others.
 Is hypercritic.
 Experiences barriers in interacting with the social
environment.

SELF - CONFIDENCE

 The concept of self-confidence is commonly used as
self-assurance in one's personal judgment,
ability, power, etc.
 One's self confidence increases from experiences of
having become more proficient in particular
activities

that can’t be scaled by a man who knows the secrets

seems to me, can be summarized in four C s. They are
curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and
the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in
a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and

SELF-IMAGE

 Your self-image is a mental picture of yourself, both
as a physical body and an individual.
 When you think about yourself, the feelings
and images that come up are important.
 A healthy body image means that you see yourself
as you really are and that you feel good in your own
skin.

oneself.
 Self image resulting from how others see the
individual.
 Self-image resulting from how the individual
perceives others see them.
 Self-image resulting from how the individual
