1. Solve for the value of x=3

log 6 ( 3 x−2)=log 6 ( 5 x−8 )

a. x=3

b. x=−1

c. x=2

d. No solution

ANSWER: a. x=3

Solution:

Recall the property that says log b x=log b y, then x= y . Therefore:

log 6 ( 3 x−2)=log 6 ( 5 x−8 ) ;

3 x−2=5 x−8 ;

8−2=5 x−3 x ;
6=2 x ;

x=3
