a) How do specific humidity and relative humidity vary seasonally in your region? Why do you expect the relative humidity to remain
nearly constant during global warming?

● Humidity is maximum around peak of monsoon season and minimum around winters
● Relative humidity also peaks in monsoon season and minimum in mid of summer
season
● As per Clausius-Clapeyron equation, the air's capacity to hold moisture generally
holds more moisture on increasing temperature. Since increase in temperature also
increases actual moisture content, their ratio remains nearly the same.
b) Is there a trend in specific humidity and relative humidity in your region?

● There have been fluctuations in both average specific and relative humidity in
Patna over the last several years, but the overall trend is increasing for both.
c) How specific humidity changes with temperature change? Explain seasonal changes between these variables.

There is a positive correlation

between temperature and
specific humidity.
We observe that, in winter where
there are cold temperatures,
specific
humidity is at a minimum.
As the summer sets in, specific
humidity starts increasing, but it
is slightly shifted towards later
because of the monsoon
season.
d) Are the number of seasonal peaks the same in temperature, specific humidity and relative humidity?

● We observe that the number of seasonal peaks in temperature and specific

humidity are the same, and equal to 1, whereas for relative humidity, there are 2
peaks.
e) If the number of peaks is different, explain why.

● Specific humidity reaches its single peak around monsoon. For

relative humidity, there is one peak in monsoon, and also
another in winter, because due to cold temperature, the
moisture holding capacity of air is reduced, so it gets saturated
easily.
