Functions of Arts
RR2 /Insights 2
Topic/Lesson

1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)

i. Reasons why people live with art
ii. What are the functions of art
iii. Why are there many functions of art

2. Insights (What new insights or learnings did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought

that art is made because people just enjoy looking at aesthetic things.
However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize
that there are plenty of reasons why art is made. This does not mean that art's
purpose is "vague," but has many unique, diverse causes. But these causes all
wind up that art is made to develop the economy.

ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought

that art is made to just express ourselves.
However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize
that is it indeed made to express ourselves, but for some, it’s deeper. Our life
as people is full of complexity and difficulties, and these are reflected in our
thinking and experienced thoughts, beliefs and qualities. The expressions are
the artist's innermost feelings. These feelings must link with the artist's
experience—her or his lived or observed experience—in order for the art to
transmit the expression truthfully.
iii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought
that art is made to serve as a communication with one another as people,
despite the differences.
However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize
that art must also seek communication- communication that interprets the
intended expression. Most kinds of communication have an aim that is
directed at other individuals. It may also convey stories, emotions, and
sentiments. Entertainment, political change and social causes can also be a
way of communication through art.

3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you
want more explanations about?
i. How can we say that someone is an artist?
ii. How can we identify right away that something is an art?
iii. In what other way can art be used in a political change?
