CORAZON AQUINO'S SPEECH DURING THE JOINT SESSION OF THE UNITED

STATES CONGRESS

In her speech, President of the Philippines, Maria Corazon Aquino, shared her
experiences dealing with the loss of a husband and a father. She also talked about the
events that led to the death of Ninoy Aquino, who was the country's leader. Cory then
spoke about the various tasks inherited as the Philippines' new president, including
restoring democracy and the free and fair elections. She also mentioned the need to
heal the country's various communities. Also thanked the American people for their help
in helping the Philippines. She also noted that the country's debt was manageable
through negotiations with the Marcos regime.

Moreover, Cory Aquino emphasized the flaws of the Martial Law era and how it
led to the First People Power Revolution in her address. She spoke for all those who
were victims of the Marcos regime in this historical discourse, explaining how the
murder of her husband ignited the first People Power Revolution, with Filipinos calling
out for democracy and freedom from the country's oppressors.

The text depicts the social and political conditions in the Philippines at the time,
and it is the country's first nonviolent revolution. It bears the grief of the people who
waged war on the evils of oppression as the Filipino people did for the Matter of
freedom gathered. This fear turned into power that led to the nation's most significant
victory: the abolition of a dictatorial government that gave way to true freedom, the
enhancement of human rights, and the protection of the well-being of Filipinos.

Cory became a metaphor for democracy, empowering a politically marginalized

population. I think it is incredibly thrilling that the Filipinos valued democracy and
freedom over their socioeconomic status. The people had solid ideals and convictions
that oppressors would not misuse their citizenship rights and privileges. The force of a
nonviolent demonstration is also gratifying and encouraging, inspiring me to protect and
value the democracy I have.
