LESSON 21: READING ACTIVITY
When I ask to students Why they want to study travel and tourism? The repeatedly answers are “I
like to share my culture” “I love traveling” “ I love meting people” “I like adventure” etc. but this
career goes beyond those spectations, because the travel and tourism industry involves more serious
aspects due to its impact on economy development and global care (people, culture, nature etc.)
IN THIS READING ACTIVITY YOU WILL:
1. Understand and explain the basic definition of tourism.
2. Identify the major participants and forces shaping the tourism industry.
3. Explain historical factors that encouraged the development of tourism activities.
4. Explain the impact of physical, human, and regional geography on tourism activities.

LESSON OBJECTIVE: At the end of this chapter you will be able to understand how the industry has
developed, basic concepts of the tourism industry, challenges and opportunities.

challenges and opportunities.

SS will make presentations based on the reading activity.


How will you develope this activity?
1.- Divide the class in groups of 3 or 4 people. There will be some students who are more
fluent in the language, and they could guide an help other classmates in the actvity.
2.- The text will be divided in small parts for each group so students can have time to
prepare their presentations. Name a coordinator.
3.- Students shouldn’t limiXCXVCXt their presentation only to the text but also they have
to make some research on the topic and add aditional information.
4.- After each presentation there will be some question based on the text and the
presentation. (for all students at random)
5.- The groups can not be divided, individual presentations will not be allowed. If you join a
group you have to stay in that group and work.
6.- I suggest that you open a shared presentation in the cloud to work collaboratively and
respect your classmates schedule, but you need to have a meeting at list twice before the
presentation or make the approprietly coordinations.
