SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

§  DC supply system is envisaged for feeding the Loads of complete 33kV Feeders(16No.)+33kV
Bussection(3No.)+80MVA TFR(4No.)+220kV Feeders(2No.)+220kV Buscoupler(1No.) in an
220/33kV Substation.

§  Plant 220V DC System consists of Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Battery with 2Set
Float ,2Set Float cum Boost Charger With DCDB.

§  The battery and battery charger combinations shall be such as to ensure continuity of D.C
supply at load terminals without even momentary interruption.

§  The batteries & charger shall be so designed that the maximum fault level on DCDB is limited
to 10 KA as per battery capacity.

§  DCDB shall have nominal system Voltage of 220V with +10% to (-) 10% variation.

§  Ageing Factor of 25% for Valve Regulated Lead Acid Battery as per Manufacturer
Recommendation.

§  End voltage of cell shall not be less than 1.85 Volt /cell during any time of the duty cycle.

§  Battery shall be capable to become fully charged from complete discharge state by 10 hour
(C10). Battery capacity is designed for Three (3) Hours back up.

§  Temp Correction Factor =1+R [(27-t) / 100], where R=0.9 for 10 hrs discharge as per table-2 of
IS: 1652, t= Min Electrolyte temp = 8˚C. Hence Temp Correction Factor = 1.198

Battery Sizing Calculation

Input Parameters considered as per standard design values of any reputed manufacturers

Type of battery = Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA)

Mfg. of Battery = EXIDE/HBL/EQUIVA

Nominal System Voltage = 220V

Maximum System Voltage = 220V + 10%

Minimum System Voltage = 220V - 10%

Nominal Cell Voltage = 2.00 V

End Cell Voltage (ECV) = 1.85 V

Float Voltage = 2.23 V

Boost Voltage = 2.30 V

Minimum Site Ambient Temperature = -5˚C

Temperature Correction Factor = 1.198

Ageing Factor (As per Standard) = 1.25

Ageing Factor (15% design margin) = 1.15

DETERMINATION OF NUMBER OF CELLS PER BATTERY BANK & END CELL VOLTAGE/C

Nominal cell voltage = 2.00 Volts/cell

Nominal battery voltage = 220 Volts

Cell Float voltage = 2.23 Volts/Cell, as per Manufacturer Std.

Allowable System voltage = 220 V, +10% to -10%

= 242 Volts to 198 Volts

Maximum no. of cells = Maximum System Voltage/Float Cell Voltage
