Myanmar Junta extends curfew in Nay Pyi Taw

The junta, on September 17, extended the midnight-to-4am curfew in eight townships in Nay Pyi Taw
until further notice, according to local news outlets.

The eight townships are Pobbathiri, Dakkhinathiri, Zabuthiri, Ottarathiri, Zayathiri, Takkon, Pyinmana
and Lewe.

In addition to the curfew, the order said that people must not gather more than five in public places and
major roads.

Presently, the junta has continued implementing various security measures in the administrative capital
of Myanmar, highlighting alleged security concerns.

In Myanmar, political and military crises have been growing amid anti-junta groups' ongoing armed
struggle with the junta’s army since February 2021, when Myanmar military staged a coup by ousting
the elected government led by the National League for Democracy (NLD).

A few thousands of pro-junta informants have been killed or wounded by anti-junta armed resistance
groups in Myanmar since the military coup.

A lot of pro-democracy activists were arrested or killed by the junta, too. In late July, the junta executed
four pro-democracy activists, carrying out its first death sentences in more than three decades.
