Introduction to Esports: Task 2 – Structure.

In this research task you will explore how esports is organized and structured
in the UK. 

Students must fill out each box below to the expected minimum word count, all research
sources should be link at the bottom of each box, Wikipedia does not count as a research
source. Source links do not make up total word count of a question box.

What role does the government play?

Having the government support is key in helping growing esport. This is because it would be more difficult to fund it
without the government founding it would be hard to book venues or help fly in different player from around the world.
The cost of building stadium that are used only for esport tournament is very expensive and make would be impossible
to create without support from the government.

How is esports defined under UK law?

Esport is known as electronic sports or pro competition of gaming, labelling the esports as a sport is a
controversial subject under UK law as it’s not a normal sport like football or rugby more of a cognitive game
like chess or checker because it takes focus and strategic game play behind a screen instead.

What role do the British Esports Association play?

The British esport association was set up by the government as a non-profit organising to help to support esports
industry and the long-term carers of profession esport players. In doing so the new BTEC international level 3 esports
was founded all around the uk to help support people be able to put themselves out there and make them look
presentable.

How does esports fit within the wider video game industry?

Esport allows more casual player to haver a chance to play it more competitive. This could in your local area or in your
country or a huge tournament from players around the world. This allows more jobs and opportunity to people who
might have gotten the chance without esport being all big as it is.

Some of the competitive esport tournaments put on in the uk include: insomnia gaming festival, Epic.lan, commonwealth
esports championships, British esports student champs, W.A.S.D, ESL Play, belong arenas, nuel / nse, ICE challenge, the
intel extreme masters, lol world championship and the overwatch world cup.
