High Pressure Decorative Laminates- Fire Retardant

Fire retardant Laminate is manufactured by pressing melamine resin impregnated decorative paper over layers of phonemic resin impregnated Kraft paper at pressures approximating 1200 lbs. per square inch at temperature not exceeding 300 F(148C). The back is sanded to maintain uniform thickness and to facilitate bonding.

These laminates are used in interior design applications where resistance to smoke and flame is required. More and more people are now a days using these laminates because of safety measures. OPTUS has been supplying these laminates for various industrial and decorative applications.

R & D:

This department is exclusively devoted in products engineering and development of new products and bonding materials. Though there is a very narrow differentiation with the Technical Development Cell and R & D Cell, the former is concentrating more on the processes and quality of the product. The ever probing energetic scientist devote themselves in identifying new species of timber suitable for production, understanding their properties, preparing suitable bonding material and finally translating their thoughts for a better quality output. These people are also responsible in finding the suitability of the new products and making them acceptable and adaptable as per consumers requirements.

Maintenance:

A good laminate requires not only good workmanship but care and maintenance as well.

Page 17 7/15/2011 You may wipe laminate surface with ordinary soft damp cloth to remove stains, Household ammoniated liquid detergent can also be used. For stubborn stains first rub with diluted organic solvent stain remover and then wipe it clean with damp soft cloth. Avoid usage of abrasive cleansers and wire brushes. The care and maintenances instructions are for our standard laminates and do not apply to Metallic, Litmus, Silver & Golden Foil laminates, as they are created for special optical effects and are sensitive. But harsh scouring powders and acid based cleaners must not be used. Gloss & matt products show scuffmarks and scratches more easily than texture finishes and hence require more care when used as work surfaces.

Process Tour The basic Raw material for manufacturing Laminates is - Paper (Design paper and Kraft paper) - Liquid Chemicals (Resin)

Various variety of paper is used depending upon their GSM. In one sheet of Laminate about 4-5 papers are used as face and cores. Face is always treated design paper and cores are treated Kraft papers. Design papers are either imported or printed in house on imported printing paper at state of art printing machines while Kraft paper is brought from paper manufacturers.

Rolls of Kraft Paper are treated with specially made Phonemic based Resin by passing through the tray containing these chemicals and then through the chambers of impregnator for drying the paper.

Page 28 7/15/2011 Paper is then cut into 8 x 4 size sheets and moved to press section. The main purpose of treating the paper is to provide various properties like strength, boiling water resistance and gluing. Similarly, the printed rolls are treated with specially made Melamine based resins. Again, the paper is cut into 8 x 4 size sheets and passed to AC Rooms for storage.

These Phenol and Melamine based Resins are prepared with special recipe by putting together many chemicals and mixing them at various temperatures. Base chemicals (Phenol, Melamine and few others) are imported to be sure about their purity and chemical composition.

These treated papers are then assembled according to design and thickness requirement. The top is always the required design along with the overlay and below the design paper are the Kraft cores, which are added to give strength and required thickness. This combination is then assembled with the moulds for giving the face impression according to the requirement of the customer. Mostly three type of finishes are in demand Glossy, Suede and Matt. The whole combination of mould , design paper and Kraft paper is then put into press for baking under high pressure. Baking is done by first heating the laminates as various papers and chemicals undergo reactions and then they are cooled. This whole process of baking takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. After this the laminate sheets are taken out.

These sheets are then sent to the cutting section where the sides are trimmed to remove the unwanted material. These sheets are then sent to sanding section to make the backside

the sheets are ready for dispatch.

Phenolic Becker Phenolic Becker sheets are manufactured by using Kraft paper as reinforcement with specially formulated Phenolic resin as bonding media. These sheets are used as backup material for drilling in circuit boards. There is no chipping while drilling with a drill bit as low as 0.3mm in diameter, making these sheets perfect for PCB drilling. COLOUR SIZE Natural 1220 mm x 2440 mm or any other suitable size as required The Becker sheets are used as backup material while drilling the Printed Circuit Board.

CONCLUSION
I have studied the basic operation of the company very profoundly with a learning point of view. From the whole report, I can conclude that the company has its overall business performance is very good. The company is having good industrial relationship. It has also going enter in to many foreign markets, which has increased the market value of the company. By working on this project, I come to know that Touch Laminates (P) Ltd. is a cash rich company. Therefore, I can say the firm has a good liquidity position. The company is following conservative policy in maintaining their current assets. Since, it is a large pharmaceutical company and having various strategic business units, which mainly includes manufacturing units therefore the requirement of working capital, is very high. And having many manufacturing premises at various places the need for working capital increase as well it become difficult to manage it but then the company has managed it very well. At last, I would like to conclude the company is working properly and position is good, as it has fast growing and it is expanding worldwide. It brands are having a success in the world. And that future of the company is very bright and performance of this is very satisfactory. The company started in small scale and become the largest company by its good performance. The company has proven that "Every thing is possible if all the work is done in right manner," TOUCH not to work for profit but it provides good product also take care of nature at Sonasan PLANT. I have found no type of pollution
