Como sabes, para hablar del futuro, usamos will y be going to. A continuación,
will + verb
I will send you a postcard.
This trip won't be cheap. (In informal contexts, "will not" becomes "won't")
What time will the museum open?
be going to + verb
I'm going to go to Argentina next month.
She's not going to visit Peru this time.
What are you going to do?
usamos be going to.
3. Para las predicciones, se puede utilizar ya sea will o be going to: ¡es
indiferente!
Estos ejemplos muestran cómo usamos will y be going to:
Plan previo: I am going to fly home on Sunday.
Decisión rápida: Great, I will pick you up from the airport.
A punto de suceder: I should say goodbye now. My phone is going to run out of
battery.
Predicción: Take care! I'm sure you will have a great time. / Take care! I'm sure
you are going to have a great time.
No te preocupes si confundes will y be going to se te entenderá igualmente.
¡Vamos a practicar!
will decisiones rápidas
be going to planes previos; acontecimientos que
están a punto de suceder
will or be going to predicciones
en lugar de be going to. Echa un vistazo a los ejemplos siguientes:
I am going to go on a trip tomorrow. I am going on a trip tomorrow.
→
They are going to move house soon. They are moving house soon.
→
He's not going to join us for dinner. He's not joining us for dinner.
→
siguiente y, a continuación, sigue practicando.
will
I will book the tickets tonight.
be going to
I'm going to book the tickets tonight.
present continuous
I'm booking the tickets tonight.
I'm going to miss you! I'm gonna miss you!
→
She's going to try the local food. She's gonna try the local food.

Repaso del past simple - Gramática: repaso del past
simple

When you flushed the toilet the shower became boiling hot.
Our bathroom was not clean when we arrived
In the morning when we went to get breakfast, they had no more food!
"All that said," es
"All in all," es una
All that said, the price was good for the area and we were only a 10-15 minute
walk from the beach.
All in all, the value of the hostel is great, but if you're looking for the usual hotel
comforts then this place is not for you.

Chenxi: I would say at work I definitely speak more English with native English s

on-native English speakers because it’s a diverse city, with people from all over

Chenxi: Well, I never feel completely comfortable speaking English at work bec

Chenxi: I feel I have an American accent because that’s most movies I watched,

Chenxi: The most valuable advice I could gave… I could give… is that, um… to lov

need to discover first why you love this language and why you wanna learn it. If
you are just learning it for no reason or if you are just learning it for a test it mig

Chenxi: I don’t think anyone owns the English language, because unlike other la

1. At work, who do you speak English with the most? (En el trabajo, ¿con quién
hablas más inglés?)
2. How long did it take you to feel comfortable speaking English at work?
3. Are you proud of your English? (¿Te sientes orgullosa de tu inglés?)
4. How do you feel about your accent? (¿Cómo te sientes en relación con tu

5. Who do you think "owns" the English language? (¿De quién crees que es

Diálogo
Sophie: Most people I talk to at work are actually not British but English is our
common language to communicate, and… yeah, they are from Spain, or Brazil…
A bit of everywhere in the world, but not many of them are British or American
or even Canadian.
Sophie: So, I can’t remember exactly when I felt fully confident speaking Englis
h at work, but I do remember at first being very scared during interviews. Basic
ally I was scared people wouldn’t understand me, but very quickly I realised tha
t people understood me perfectly and that my accent wasn’t a problem at all.
Sophie: I think that, um… I can say that I’m proud of my English. I’m quite proud
that, um… I know quite a few colloquialisms and, um… that I can use them, er… w
hen they should be used, and it makes me feel part of, er… yeah, part of Britishn
ess actually.
Sophie: So, for a very long time I was quite annoyed, er…, at my accent because
I was really, really working hard on it to… to try to have a perfect, er… British acc
ent. And… but then I will go into shops and very, very quickly people would be “o
h wow you are French” and I was so annoyed and so upset. But then I… I realise
d what really mattered was to be understood and… I am being more than under
stood actually. I communicate well and… no one is actually asking me to repeat
twice because they can’t understand me, and everybody says that French acce
nt is charming. I am not sure about that, but, er… I’ll take it and I guess that I just,
now, I embrace it because it’s just part of, er… who I am and there’s clearly not
much I can do about it and… that’s ok.
Sophie: Anyone and everyone owns English these days because… as soon as th
ere is a new concept, or there is a new word someone invents, no matter where
the person is from, so… English is owned by anyone speaking English, basically,
for me.

Vamos a ver algunos ejemplos.
a train is faster than a bus
the beach is more crowded than the museum.
Podemos formar el comparativo de dos maneras.
1. adjetivo de una sola sílaba + terminación "-er" + "than"
2. "more/less" + adjetivo de 2 o más sílabas + "than"
1. Mexico City is warmer than Toronto.
2. The hotel in Chicago was less luxurious than the hotel in Moscow.
happy the happiest
→
easy the easiest
→
Antes del superlativo, solemos utilizar la palabra "the". Sin embargo, también
podemos utilizar una palabra como "my", "your", "her", etc., y así sucesivamente, tal
como se muestra en estos ejemplos:
What is your earliest memory?
This photo is my most important possession.
I'm a big Bowie fan - I think "Hunky Dory" is his best album.
K2 is the second highest peak in the Himalayas.
The Amazon is the second longest river in the world.
Baseball is the second most popular sport in the USA.
good the best
bad the worst
far the furthest / the farthest
con "most".
common the commonest / the most common
cruel the cruelest / the most cruel
gentle the gentlest / the most gentle

muestra a continuación.
He is one of the best footballers in the world right now.
He is among the best footballers in the world right now.
Tiempos verbales pasados combinados - Gramática:
tiempos verbales pasados combinados
Aquí tienes un consejo
Previamente, viste estas dos formas verbales: el past continuous ("was/were
playing", "was/were going") y el past simple ("played", "went"). A continuación, vamos
I was sleeping when the phone rang.
Our daughters got into kendo while we were living in Japan.
como "when", "while" y "as". A continuación, puedes ver algunos ejemplos:
I was sleeping when the phone rang.
She called me while I was having dinner.
As I was driving home, I saw my old boss.
Our daughters got into kendo while we were living in Japan.
I met him when I was working in Lagos.

I have been doing yoga to relax. (He estado practicando yoga para relajarme).
He has been struggling at work. (Él ha estado afrontando dificultades en el
trabajo).
They've been speaking for an hour. (Han estado una hora hablando).
They've been working out a lot. (Han estado entrenando mucho).
Así se forma el present perfect continuous:
"have / has" + "been" + present participle of the verb
He has been doing yoga for three months. (Ha estado practicando yoga
durante tres meses).
I have been struggling with my workload. (He estado teniendo dificultades con
He's been going to the gym since January. (Él ha estado yendo al gimnasio
desde enero).
They've been training for that marathon for six months. (Ellos han estado
entrenando para el maratón durante seis meses).
I've been listening to the radio for the last hour. (He estado escuchando la
radio durante la última hora).
Formamos oraciones negativas añadiendo "not" antes de "been".
I have not been spending enough alone time. (No he estado pasando suficiente
tiempo solo).
They have not been sleeping well.
He has been doing yoga all day.
Has he been doing yoga all day?

competitive (competitivo)
booming (en auge)
tune in (sintonizar)

to lure (atraer)
to nurture (cuidar)
avid (ávido)
tournament (torneo)
sponsor (patrocinador)
maladjusted (inadecuado)
console (consola)
The video-gamers will gather to watch each other compete amid strobe lights,
LED screens and thundering music.
atronadora.)
"Most people still think of gamers as maladjusted teens who hole up for hours in
the dark, alone but for their consoles."
Como puedes ver en esta frase, a menudo usamos la expresión "but (for)" como
sinónimo de "except (for)". A continuación puedes consultar más ejemplos.
I liked everything but the fish. (Me gustó todo salvo el pescado).
The fridge was empty, but for half a carton of milk.

If I wasn't busy this weekend, I would come to your graduation.
I would buy some new shoes, if I had enough money this month.
If I had time (situación hipotética), I would buy an outfit for the party
(consecuencia).
You would enjoy the party (consecuencia) if you knew more people (situación
conditional.
If I didn't have a full car, I'd drive you to the party.
If Omar had time, he'd cut his hair before the wedding.
Would it be alright if I brought a plus one?
Formamos el second conditional con: "if" + past simple y "would" + infinitivo.
If the week were 8 days long, Adam would visit his parents more often.
If I were you, I'd wear a suit.

decimos.
It definitely won't rain tomorrow.
'definitely'
It probably won't rain tomorrow.
Maybe it will rain tomorrow.
ocurra. Expresan menos seguridad que 'will' y 'won't'
It might be a fun party.
It will be a fun party.
We will probably visit them this year.
She'll definitely leave soon.
They probably
won't arrive on time.
We definitely won't go there again.
Maybe we'll go out later.
may y might:
We might go out later. no* We probably might go..

I'll be relaxing by the pool this time next week.
We won't be using the meeting
room at 4 o'clock tomorrow.
At 5 o'clock I'll be talking to the new manager.
We'll be driving all through the night.
I + will = I'll
He + will = He'll
I'll be working late tonight.
He'll be having a party on the 23rd.
Para construir oraciones negativas en 'Future Continuous' se utilizan will + not,
esto suele contraerse en won't.
I won't be using the computer tonight.
Para hacer preguntas se coloca el sujeto entre 'will' y 'be'.
Will you be using the computer tonight?
If they'd played better, they would have won the match.
If I had worked harder, I would have got a promotion.
Se pueden utilizar could have y might have para expresar posibilidad y capacidad
en relación con situaciones irreales del pasado.
I could have been.. (capacidad)
I might have been.. (posibilidad)
Third Conditional' se forma con if + 'Past Perfect', Would have + Participio Pasado.
If I'd worked harder, I would have passed the exam.
If I'd seen him, I would have said hello.
I would have said hello if I'd seen him.
'Would' puede sustituirse por 'could' o 'might' para expresar capacidad o
posibilidad.
I might have got the job if I had arrived on time for the interview.
'clauses'. Esto suele contraerse:
had + not = hadn't
would + not = wouldn't
I wouldn't have got wet if I hadn't forgoten my umbrella.

My friend had called before, so they knew we were coming.
'then', 'before',
pasadas.
I had heated the oven so it was already hot.
All the guests had arrived before we finished preparing the food.
They had bought the drinks (primera acción), when we got there. (siguiente
oraciones negativas:
She had been = She'd been
We had not seen = We hadn't seen
Solíamos ser amigos - Gramática: Perífrasis verbales II
Aquí tienes un consejo
Se utilizan used to + infinitivo y would + infinitivo para hacer referencia a
We used to go to the South of France on holiday.
When we lived near the sea
she would swim every evening.
con 'used to'.
I used to live in a village in France. I would cycle to work every day.
Used to muestra un contraste entre situaciones pasadas y presentes:
I used to walk to work. = pero ya no lo hago.
We didn't use to get on very well. =
pero ahora nos llevamos bien.
Se puede utilizar used to para hacer referencia a estados pasados distintos del
presente.
We used to live by the sea.
would solo se utiliza para hacer referencia a acciones repetidas, no a estados.
We would go swimming every evening after work.
Las oraciones positivas utilizan 'used to'. Las negativas y las preguntas utilizan el
verbo auxiliar 'did' con 'use to'.
La pronunciación de 'used to' y 'use to' es la misma. Para usar 'would' en negativo se
utiliza 'would not' o 'wouldn't'.
I used to live in Spain.
I didn't use to do much exercise.
I would go there early
in the morning.
There wouldn't be anyone else in the pool.
Nota: be/get used to muestra familiaridad con algo.
My new job was hard, but I've got used to it now.

on pace to (estar en camino de)
amid (entre)
fatigue (fatiga)
unfamiliar (infrecuente)
influx (influjo)
foreigners (extranjeros)
three-fold (triplicado)
to trumpet (proclamar)
congested (congestionado)
to moan (quejarse)
horde (horda)
gaijin - "gaikokujin" significa "extranjero"
backlash (repercusión)
survey (encuesta)
to rub along (llevarse bien)
to turn the tide (invertir la tendencia)
"To rub along" es otra manera de decir "to get along", que significa cohabitar en paz.
Local governments try to discover ways tourists and residents can rub along.
Japan's government is doing everything in their power to help residents and
tourists get along.
You've been to Spain, haven't you?
She looks so happy, doesn't she?
positiva:
You love him, don't you?
You don't love him, do you?
The food is great, isn't it? no* The food is great, isn't the food?
A: You're not coming, are you? B: No, I'm not. / Yes, I am
no* Yes, I'm.

Oraciones de relativo - Gramática: Oraciones de
relativo
(pronombres relativos) who, which, that y whose.
The man who painted your house was very professional.
The company which I
used to work for has just been sold.
I like blue cars.
I like cars with lots of space.
I like cars that are blue.
I like cars which have lots of space.
Se pueden utilizar 'who' o 'that' para las personas:
The lady who / that owns the business.
Se utilizan 'that' o 'which' para las cosas:
The car that / which I bought.
Se utiliza 'whose' para los posesivos:
This is the man whose art I was telling you about.
relativo:
The lady (that) I live with. - 'I' es el sujeto de la oración de relativo y 'that' es
opcional.
I love books that make me think.

The concert has been cancelled due to illness.
The festival was started in the
early 1990s.
The window was broken by a falling tree.
(was/were), el 'Future Passive' utiliza 'be' en futuro (will be), etc.
Dinner was being served as we walked in.
The centre will be opened on
Saturday.
Pasivo: The car was stolen
(el coche fue robado).
