I’m 21. My dad thinks it’s okay to just give me a

room and nothing else, not even food. What should
I do?
When I graduated high school my dad asked, “Are you
going to work or college?”

I told him I wasn’t sure if I was ready for college yet, so he

said, “Well you’d better get a job because rent starts July
1st if you aren’t going to college.

I ended up starting college without a break and the rent

didn’t start. But then after two years I decided to take a
break, and sure enough the rent started up.

When I was in my late 20s I managed to save up enough

to buy a house, and as a house warming present dad
gave me all the rent I had paid him plus the interest it had
collected.

It was never about the money, it was about the lesson.

My girlfriend cooks amazing dinners for me almost

every night, but still wants me to take her to
restaurants even though I buy all the food to cook.
How do I let her know that's not fair?
I knew someone who thought eating out was a waste of
money. I guess in some ways it is, since you can eat for
less money at home but it’s called AN EFFING BREAK. I
cook six and seven days a week, all year. Yes, I can make
it cheaper at home, and my cooking is pretty good. But
you know what I really want for dinner? Someone else to
serve the meal, prepare the meal, and do the dishes. All I
want is a break. Thank you.

Amen, it's a wonderful gift to someone to have
dinner out and served to them. I did a lot of
cooking when I was married, we shared the chore.
And I'll tell you after you work all day, you are tired
from being on your feet, as much as I love doing it,
cooking is work.

Better yet go DUTCH. She can meet you at
restaurant, you can meet her there and pay
separate, then you can go be with someone
that appreciates you afterwards or before. She
can buy her own meal, and you can pay for
only yours, then you can take someone else
out that appreciates you and your don't have to
do any dishes…

It doesn’t actually have to be about ‘restaurants’…
you could call into a deli and pick up a selection of
antipasto and make up a picnic basket and go
someplace that’s scenic and beautiful or just
somewhere neither of you have been and hang out
together and have a picnic… just an idea!

here goes. I am answering as a 58 year old woman
who witnessed her father hitting her mother as far
back as I can remember.

AS FAR BACK AS I CAN REMEMBER!

Those are the relevant words. I have a few other

hazy memories of when I was very young. Our dog,
Topper. Our cat, Arthur. But over and above all of
them, my father hitting my mother. Not just a slap,
but knocking her to the floor.
