materials available at home.
Supplies and Materials:
You will need a table, PPE (or alternatives), camera/cellphone, ballpen, and
notebook.
STEPS/ PROCEDURES:
1. Identify a place/area in your home that can be your workshop area for CSS
activities.
2. Identify materials alternative to PPE for your safe working activities.
3. Prepare your alternative PPEs on the Workshop Table and write the items in your
notebook.
4. Take a picture of your workshop area and your PPEs. If you can print the images,
write a caption for each. If printing is not possible, you can take a video of your
workshop area and PPEs while discussing or explaining them in the video.
What to explain:
 Introduce yourself: Name, Year and Section, and address.
 Describe the workshop area and why did you choose it.
 Identify the PPEs or the alternatives and explain their functions and how they
can help you work safely.
5. If both taking pictures and videos are not possible, write a short essay describing
your workshop area at home and the PPEs or alternative PPEs you have found
following the Instructions for your explanation in item number 4.
6. Write your workplace practices applying the 5S principles as house rules or
workplace policies.

LEARNERS REFERENCE IN COMPUTER SYSTEMS SERVICING

TOPIC: OSH Standards and PPE

What is OSH? Why is it necessary?

OSH stands for Occupational Safety and Health, is a cross-disciplinary area
concerned with protecting the safety, health, and welfare of people engaged in work or
employment. Here in the Philippines, the Department of Labor and Employment
(DOLE) implements the OSH. These are mandatory rules and standards set and
enforced to eliminate or reduce occupational safety and health hazards in the
workplace.

OSH Standard aims to protect every workingman against the dangers of injury,
sickness, or death through safe and healthful working conditions. Assuring the
conservation of valuable human resources prevents loss of or damage to lives and
properties. OSH standard promotes the development of every worker as a complete
human being. These standards shall apply to all places of employment.

The provision of OSH Standards by the State is an exercise of police power.

Aim to promote the welfare and well-being of workers.

Personal Protective Equipment

Personal protective equipment (PPE) refers to protective clothing, helmets,

goggles, or other garment designed to protect the wearer's body from injury by blunt
impacts, electrical hazards, heat, chemicals, and infection, for job-related occupational
safety and health purposes, and in sports, martial arts, combat, etc.

Personal Protective Equipment includes gloves, masks/respirators, eyewear

(face shields, goggles, or glasses), caps, gowns, aprons, and other items. In most
countries' caps, masks, safety-gowns, and drapes are cloth, paper, or plastic.

Some PPE for computer works includes protective eyewear, mask, gloves, and
anti-static wrist strap.

OSH for safe working with network cables

Working with installing copper and fiber-optic cables may be dangerous to the
workers. Remember the following safety guides:
■ Ensure that the tools are in good working conditions.
■ Be careful and avoid working in a hurry. Keep yourself and others from
being cut or in danger.
■ Save your eyes from possible injuries caused by the tiny fragments. When
cutting, stripping, or splicing cables of any type, make sure to wear safety
glasses.
■ Wear gloves when necessary and observe proper disposal of waste
materials.
