The teacher will be presenting the lesson; Critical
Reading as Reasoning

What is Critical Reading?

Critical reading involves scrutinizing any
information that you read or hear. Critical reading
means not easily believing information offered to
you by a text.

What is Reasoning?
Reasoning is an act of giving statements for
justification and explanation. It is the ability to
defend something by giving out reasons.

Critical Reading as Reasoning

A critical reader is one who is able to look beyond
the information he is presented with. He does not
easily fall victim to false statements as he verifies
information before he accepts them.

C. GUIDED The teacher will group the students into two. They *Collaborative
PRACTICE will give their stand to following online posts with learning
the guidance of the teacher.
*Supplemental
For the transitional questions, they will be asked by strategy: number
group but one representative shall take the heads
speaking for all with the guidance of the teacher.
(number heads)

What’s Your Take?

Students will be shown a couple of social media
posts to which they will be asked to give their
insights, that is, whether they agree with the given
statements.

Reason Out!
After giving their take on the social media posts
provided, students will then be asked why their
opinion is such. On this part, they must be able to
explain the reason why they agree or disagree
with the posts.
Transitional Question:
1. Is it correct for us to easily accept and take
in information as we see or read them?
Why or why not?
2. Why is it important to be mindful of the
statements we hear or we read from
someone else?
3. Can you provide an instance where you
believed someone else’s false statement?
What was its effect on you?

Please take note this, in marketing, of products or

propaganda, facebook is the most effective tool for
it has millions of users worldwide. That is, most of
the agencies, departments, and organizations have
accounts to reach the market segment that they
focused on and place their brands or upcoming *Research-based

(Al Ghamdi, et al., 2014) [The Effectiveness of
Facebook as Marketing Tool]
However, let us be aware of the post we read
online. Hoax messages are spreading fast from one
person to another. That is in the article written by
Andy O’Donnell(December 2, 2020), a chain post
is often part of a multilevel marketing scheme, or
someone’s attempt to spread malware or phishing
links, that it stays right here for whatever reasons.
With emotions running high, it’s easy to
manipulate public sentiment with inflammatory,
misleading, or outright false posts that others will
copy and paste as their status.
