PART FOUR

HOUSE
FACADE
17
PROBLEMS Building Configuration/Orientation
-The building configuartion affects the
structure in a way that there is poor
light and ventilation.
18
Building Configuration/Orientation
SOLUTIONS -The building configuration can't be
changed but it is possible to add
features that will redirect light and
ventilation. Ex: sun shading devices in
the openings, providing more opening
in the cooler part, and adding more
plants in the second floor.
19
PROBLEMS Airflow
-There is little airflow in the second
floor where the wind source is not
maximized and distributed properly in
the whole structure.
20
SOLUTIONS Airflow
-Rearrange the house's planning and
place bedrooms near ventilation
source and where there is mostly
morning light only. This is also to
encourage passive cooling.
21
SOLUTIONS Airflow
-Another solution is the open plan or if
not possible, use retractable
partitions to open the space whenever
wanted.
22
PROBLEMS Surface Colors
-Although the walls ar white, the roofs
are prone to heat absorption.
23
SOLUTIONS Surface Colors
-Lighter colors should be use din the
roofings.
24
SOLUTIONS Surface Colors
-Lighter colors should be use din the
roofings.
25
Heat Gain
PROBLEMS -Unwanted heat is present in the
upper floor, especially in the southern
bedroom.
26
SOLUTIONS Heat Gain
-Bed rooms should be transferred to
the northern or eastern side.
27
Openings
PROBLEMS -Openings should be reoriented to
maximize light and ventilation and
installed with sun protection like
glazings, sun films, and devices
(vertical, horizontal, eggcrate).
28
Openings
SOLUTIONS -Openings should be arramged in a
way that they are adjacent to each
other to harness more ventilation
through cross ventilation or venturi
effect.
29
SOLUTIONS Ceilings
-Ceiling height should also be
increased to encourage more airflow
and distribution of temperature.
30
SOLUTIONS Vegetation
-Amount of vegetation should be
increased in both the interior and
exterior of the structure to help
absorb heat and improve air quality
and flow.
