Chapter I

Introduction

Sex education is probably one of the sensitive topics as far

as the Philippines are concerned. It has been a subject of debate

whether to incorporate this in the school curriculum. The reason

behind it is to address the problems of pre-marital sex and teenage

pregnancies among teenagers, and to check the spread of Sexually-

Transmitted Diseases (STDs).Without proper guidance, their

understanding of sex is they can get pleasure from it but not aware

in the real consequence. Girls are often the one’s who pay for the

consequences when they get pregnant. Their lack of maturity makes

them vulnerable when pressured by their boyfriend to have sex as a

way to demonstrate their love. But the moment they get pregnant,

they are the ones who often run away from potential

responsibilities of being a parent. This is because they have not

reached that stage where they can fully grasp the meaning of

love.Given this alarming information, the government through the

Department of Education feels that Sex Education must be included

in the curriculum of schools, especially to Elementary School and

College School students because they belong to the age group

considered “vulnerable.” Emphasis will be placed on educating the

youth on how the reproductive system works.

Nowadays the teaching of sexuality education is now

implemented to all of schools start from Elementary schools to

College schools but there is still problems on inadequate attitudes

and knowledge by the students , because they think of this topic is

way too sensitive so they tend to not listen and make jokes of it,

this kind of attitudes start on the Elementary schools because

some of the kids this age (10-15) is not mature enough to think

this kind of topics and because of that they tend to make mistakes

and loss everything, so sometimes the teaching is not good enough

and it tend to fail because of lack of attention when it comes on

this kind of topics especially on the kids ages of 10- 13.

In the year 2012, the government has passed a new law called “

Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012” this

act provides the schools starts from elementary to college level to

take subjects about sexuality education to let the students have

full knowledge when it comes on sex education, having them full

knowledge on this kind of topics will decrease the rapid growth of

population of the country, because most of the girls getting

pregnant start at the age of 16 above so if the kids this age have

a knowledge about this topics, they will know the consequence if

they try to do the wrong thing.

Even the government already passed law for the sex education

there are still few person who don’t have a knowledge and don’t

have access on sexual education, the reason is some of them are not

attending schools or some of them drop out from school because of

family issue or financial issue, because of this kind of events

they tend to have a lack of knowledge and don’t have a guts to take

the consequence and fail in their life,

The main purpose of this study is to measure the awareness of

students of of Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and

Technology in sex education by making them know this kind of topic

them will have awareness and knowledge when it comes on sexuality

education and will became responsible for themselves, because most

of the students in college schools have been pregnant before they

even graduate, and because of this reason they tend to stop coming

to school and just focus on their family,

Conceptual Framework

Early adolescence (ages 10–14 years) is among the most

neglected stages of development, yet there are few stages during

the life course where changes are as dramatic. The present

conceptual framework proposes central goals to be achieved by early

adolescence: engagement with learning, emotional and physical

safety, positive sense of self/ self-efficacy, acquisition of

life/decision-making skills. The framework proposes an ecological

model where the macro level factors (economic forces, historical

events, national priorities, laws/policies/norms and values,

national events, and political realities) all set the contexts that

influence community, family, school and peer factors that all in

turn influence the adolescent. Existing indicators for points of

development are noted as are future areas of research priority.

The conceptual framework consist of three parts, Input,

Process, and Output,

TheInput includes the Status in Effects of Sexuality education

on sexual knowledge and attitude of college students and its

relation to students assessed by Interpersonal relationship,

Attitudes, Effects on sexual education, Reproductive health, Sexual

Transmitted disease, and Survey Questioners

In the Process we are going to Assessment of the college

students in E.A.R.I.S.T. in attitudes and limitation when it comes

on Sexuality Education, Retrieval of the Survey Questioners, and

Statistical Treatment of the data

In the Output we are going to know the Action Plan

The purpose of the study is to determine the level of awareness

of the college students and how it is significant to study

Sexuality Education for the college students of Eulogio Amang

Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology.

1. How do the students assess the level of awareness on the

sexual knowledge and attitudes of college students as to:

1.1 importance of human sexuality;

1.2 Knowledge on sexual education;

1.3 Effects on sexual education;

1.4 Reproductive health; and

1.5 Sexual transmitted disease?

2. Is there significant difference on the level of awareness on

sexual knowledge and attitudes we assessed to students?

3. What are the problems encountered in the sexual knowledge,

attitude of college students?

Hypothesis

The study hypothesized that there is no significant difference

on the level of awareness of college students as assessed by

students.

Significance of the Study

The overall findings of conducted survey show that there are

five benefactors of this study, they are the following:

1. College Students

If the teaching of sexuality education is properly teach on

college students and if it is well implemented and visible to the

students there will be a decrease on early pregnancy of college

students and prevent the spread of diseases in sexual

intercourse.

2. Faculty

if the students in EARIST are all aware in Sexuality Education

the Professors will easily determine what kind of strategy and

approach they will use in teaching sex education.

3. Parents/Guardian

if sexuality education is well thought and guidedby

parents/guardians the students will have a good perception and

discipline about sexuality

4. School Administration

Republic of the Philippines
EULOGIO “AMANG” RODRIGUEZ INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Nagtahan,Sampaloc,Manila

If the school administration is open minded in teaching proper

sexuality education in the campus, the college students will know

what is the true meaning and value of sex.

5. Future Researchers

If the data we collected will be pass on to the libraries, it

can help to the future researchers in gathering information that

is related to their topic. It will also give an idea and thought

on what is sexuality education and attitudes of students.

Scope and Limitation

This study is limited to the assessment of the attitudes and

knowledge in sexuality education of College Students in Eulogio

“Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, located in,

Nagtahan, Sampaloc Manila.

The study involved fifty (50) Students of Eulogio “Amang”

Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology as respondents using

survey questioners to know the Effects of Sexuality education on

Sexual Knowledge and attitude of College Students and its relation

to students.

The scope of our study is mainly focus on importance of human

sexuality, knowledge on sexual education, effects on sexual

According to Geronimo (Rappler, 2016) the latest report on

the implementation of the RH law, the education department has not

yet developed the minimum standards of comprehensive sexuality

education that schools should comply with. Comprehensive sexual

education (CSE), a "critical piece" of the reproductive health

(RH) law, still "leaves something to be desired," according to the

country representative of the United Nations Population Fund

(UNFPA) to the Philippines.

"DepEd has already included CSE in its K to 12 curriculum

although it has not yet adopted the CSE standards developed by a

panel of experts in consultation with teachers, parents, RH

providers, and the adolescents themselves. Teachers have yet to be

trained on how best to deliver age-specific CSE within the K to 12

curriculum," the report read. Citing the United Nations

Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the

report said a scientifically-accurate, culturally and age-

appropriate, gender sensitive and life skills-based CSE reduces

risky behaviour among young people who are sexually active.

Beck (2016) in a state that on Thursday debunked again the

misconception that young people have more sex when they learn

about sexual education in schools. Beck on Thursday debunked again

the misconception that young people have more sex when they learn

about sexual education in schools. "Studies clearly show that's

not the case….It does not promote sex, but helps delay sex. They

can do it much more responsibly – that's the key difference

there."

National Economic and Development Authority chief Ernesto

Pernia said the Duterte administration will go "full speed ahead"

in implementing sexuality education in the country as it is "one

sure way" to reduce teenage pregnancies and unwanted pregnancies.

(READ: To avoid RH law delays, economic planning chief proposes

religious country like the Philippines, but there's really nothing

irreligious...ungodly about it," Pernia explained.

"In fact, it's very godly, because I think God does not want

couples to have more children than they can afford

because...improving their lives, achieving dignified and self-

fulfilling lives, is going to be impossible for many of these

children who are not properly planned by the parents."

In a statement, Rosalie Masilang, DepEd Adolescent

Reproductive Health focal person and supervising education program

specialist, said teaching sex education in school was meant “to

equip and empower learners in making informed choices and

decisions on issues that affect their personal safety and well-

being.”

According to Masilang (2016) that as early as Grade 1, pupils

are taught the difference between a “good touch” and a “bad

touch,” to help them avoid falling prey to people with impure

intentions. “We tell the kids that they have the right to say

‘no!’ To being touched.

Children should learn the kind of touch that is innocent and

that with malice,” the DepEd official said. Children, she added,

are most vulnerable to exploitation, mainly from people related to

them, and sexuality education can help them note the warning signs

and avoid abuse. Masilang debunked the misconception among

conservative groups that sexuality education was just about sex,

and said that children would also learn the science of

reproduction, physical care and hygiene and puberty. Also included

are discussions on gender and sexuality, correct values and the

norms of interpersonal relations to discourage premarital sex and

teenage pregnancy.

Argbulos (candy, 2017) Influenced with the Philippines being

an extremely religious country, it's no surprise that many people

are opposed to the idea of imposing sexual education in

classrooms. There are many wrong images that come with what

exactly Sex Ed will teach students, and people often have a hard

time separating fact from fiction. Here is a list of a few

misconceptions about what people think goes on in Sex Ed, and what

it actually is.

Argbulos (2017) Specify though most Catholics strongly agree

that God would disapprove of premarital sex, it is also a well-

known fact that God promoted the idea of people improving for the

better and leading well-planned lives, which is exactly what

having proper Sex Ed in the Philippines can bring to us.

Premarital sex may be wrong in the context of Catholicism, yes,

but do people not see anything wrong with the continuous increase

in teenage pregnancies in the country? It doesn't exactly come off

as a shock to anyone that a large percent of the Philippines—33%

alone in the NCR Region according to studies from 2015—has been

affected by poverty. A large number of this group is made up of

teenage couples who had no knowledge of sex, and because of this,

went into their sexual lives unprepared. This leads not only to

the unhappy life of the mother and the father of the child, but

that of their children as well. Don't get me wrong, God probably

thinks premarital sex is wrong, but I'm pretty sure He would think

that the suffering of hundreds of thousands of families because of

not having proper knowledge about sex is worse.

Obtain estimates by the United Nations Population Fund, more

than 60 percent of Filipino women from 2000-2010 became mothers

before they reached the age of 20.Masilang said sexuality

education can be integrated in the curriculum either through

natural or purposive means. Natural integration means it would

be taught as part of Science, Health, Araling Panlipunan (Social

Studies) and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (Values Education)

subjects. Purposive integration can be done through Mathematics

and Language subjects. The DepEd official said teachers and

guidance counsellors teaching sexuality education were equipped

with adequate knowledge and skills to competently handle the

subject.

Foreign Literature

Goldman( 2011 ) According In the United States, schools may

offer programs of abstinence-only sexuality education, even

‘revirginization’ but these are ineffective compared with

comprehensive, multi-focal and evidence-based programs in

promoting pubertal well-being, risk protection and reproductive

health for children and young adolescents In the United Kingdom,

sex and relationships education is neither compulsory nor

assessable, but it is clearly linked to pastoral care and health

services within schools under the education policy of Every Child

Matters.

At this time in Australia, knowledge/information on sex,

puberty and sexuality, although included in the compulsory HPE

curriculum in each State or Territory, is delivered in a sporadic,

‘ad hoc and somewhat discretionary’ manner. For example, many

students are not taught an accurate vocabulary for body parts and

systems In Queensland, each principal is responsible for

instigating a sexuality education program after negotiations with

the School Community Consultative Committee about timetabling,

funding and content. Relatively few elementary/primary teachers

are confident of the level of workplace and parental support

necessary to implement even simple, explicit and relevant

pedagogies, let alone discussions on body image, sexual values or

gender issues, see. Schools may choose to employ external

providers to deliver an annual lesson to the middle school Grades

4 to 8, for students aged about 8–13 years, but many children and

adolescents are left to garner a ‘playground education’ from

sexual banter, boasting and bullying.

Luxmoore(2011)Approached in the school where I work, I teach

a lot of very factual sex education to teenage boys. In an ideal

world, I’d have time to get to know each class and we’d be able to

talk honestly about our hopes and fears and feelings. But there

isn’t an exam in sex education, so the subject gets squeezed to

the edges of the curriculum and, in some schools, squeezed out

altogether. In the brief time I have with each class, I talk a bit

about the importance of relationships and love but the teenagers

sitting there are far more interested in hard information about

sex because, without that information, they’re vulnerable. Like

Shakespeare’s Romeo and his friends, they joke and tease each

other about sex because they’re anxious about sex. The more they

know, therefore, the more confident and relaxed they feel and the

less inclined they are to take their anxieties out on other

people.

Reducing unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted

infections are important governmental aims but the more important

reason for providing good, factual sex education is to reduce

anxieties about sex which cause unhappiness. Without information,

young people mock the ignorance of others to hide their own

ignorance; they project their own anxieties about sexual

experience and performance onto others and attack it.

Clay (April 2011) Moved Mexican psychologist Susan Pick, PhD,

still remembers how stunned she was to discover that family

planning was illegal in Mexico, her native country. The

realization, made while she was an undergraduate, marked the

beginning of what would become her life's work.

"It was a shock to me," says Pick. "I wanted to understand

what people were doing to prevent having unwanted children and to

develop work that would be of use in solving my country's

problems."

Today Pick, who received her doctorate in 1978, is president

of a non-profit organization called the Instituto Mexicano de

Investigacion de Familia y Poblacion in Mexico City. Founded in

Pick's living room in 1985, the institute has since developed

programs that have taught the basics of healthy sexuality to

an estimated six million children and adolescents in several Latin

American nations, the United States and Greece. Other programs

have targeted parents, physicians and pharmacists. Together they

represent Pick's goal of revolutionizing attitudes toward

sexuality.

Pick (2011) Motivate certain aspects of Mexican culture make

achieving her goal a challenge for the institute's 42 full-time

employees and an ever-shifting roster of consultants and interns.

Although family planning has been legal for more than 20 years in

the country, there are plenty of other problems.

"There's still this idea that men should make the decisions,

that men should have many women in bed and that men have enormous,

uncontrollable sexual urges," she explains. "People still believe

that women should be submissive, that women should not have sexual

pleasure and that if a man beats you, it's a sign that he loves

you."

The institute's research has confirmed that adolescents who

take "Planeando tu vida" before they start having sex are more

likely to practice safe sex than other adolescents, Pick reports.

Those who take "Yo quiero, yo puedo" are able to talk more openly

with their parents about contraceptive use and sexuality

Stidham (2016) Distracted given the insufficient state of sex

education in the United States in 2016, existing gaps are

opportunities for more ambitious, forward-thinking strategies that

cross-cut levels to translate an expanded evidence base into best

practices and policies. Clearly, digital and social media are

already playing critical roles at the societal level and can serve

as platforms for disseminating innovative, scientifically and

medically sound models of sex education to diverse groups of

adolescents, including sexual minority adolescents. Research,

program, and policy efforts are urgently needed to identify

effective ways to harness media within classroom, clinic, family

household, and community contexts to reach the range of key

stakeholders. As adolescents turn increasingly to the Internet for

their sex education, perhaps school-based settings can better

serve other unmet needs, such as for comprehensive sexual and

reproductive health care, including the full range of

contraceptive methods and STI testing and treatment services.

Local Studies

Deho (2011)found out that the Teenage pregnancy is pregnancy

in a female under the age of 20 (Teenage Pregnancy, Rappler, and

October 17, 2012) the incidence of teenage pregnancy depends on a

number of personal and societal factors, such as levels of sexual

activity. General sex education provided and access to affordable

contraceptive options.

Teenage pregnancy is also widespread in the Philippines,

especially among the poor (Teenage Pregnancies in the Philippines,

October 10, 2012). Thirty percent of all births belong to

adolescents and, by the age of 20 25% of the youth are already

mothers or fathers. According to the 2002 Young Adult Fertility

and Sexuality Study by the University of the Philippines

Population Institute (UPPI) and the Demographic Research and

Development Foundation, 26 percent of our Filipino youth

nationwide from ages 15 to 25 admitted to having a premarital sex

experience.

Andrade (inquirer, 2016)asked for mention that it’s not about

sex, but about matters that affect one’s personal safety, hygiene

and well-being. This, according to a Department of Education

(DepEd) official, was the primary aim of sexuality education in

the K-12 curriculum, that detractors of the Responsible Parenthood

and Reproductive Health Law of 2012 (RH Law) have denounced for

supposedly teaching adolescents and grade-school pupils about the

sex act. Teaching age-appropriate sexuality education in public

schools is one of the provisions of the RH Law whose full

implementation President Duterte has pushed for.

Boado (2011) confirmed that In the Philippines, ignorance and

poverty, which cause large numbers of children to drop out of

school, are the main drivers of persistently high rates of teenage

pregnancies in the Philippines (McIndoe, 2011). Lack of or

insufficient knowledge about sex is another cause. Accordingly,

only 15 percent of adolescents said they discussed sex with their

parents, a subject considered taboo in many households.

This could be remedied by the reproductive health bill which

mandates sex education in school but it is fiercely opposed by the

politically influential Catholic Church for violating church

doctrine forbidding artificial contraception methods. The church

hierarchy fears that sex education will lead to more promiscuity

A lot of teenagers indulge in early sexual behaviour due to

peer pressure. In adolescence, there is a great need to be ‘hip’

and ‘accepted’ by their circle of friends. To be accepted, they

may be encouraged to have a boyfriend or girlfriend or to date and

indulge in sexual acts often.

Kempner (2013) confirmed that a lot of teenagers indulge in

early sexual behaviour due to peer pressure. In adolescence, there

is a great need to be ‘hip’ and ‘accepted’ by their circle of

friends. To be accepted, they may be encouraged to have a

boyfriend or girlfriend or to date and indulge in sexual acts

often.

Teenage girls who belong to the poor families are more like

to become pregnant due to lack of desirable activities to occupy

their leisure time and insufficient knowledge. Lastly, Kempner

(2013) observed that poverty causes teen parenting, not the other

way around. She said that many researchers have concluded that

growing up with few economic prospects can lead young woman to

choose teen parenting which may be the cultural norm. This leads

to the cycle of poverty. The combination of being poor and living

in an unequal society contributes to a low perception of possible

economics success, and hence leads to choices that favour short

terms satisfaction. It is their decision to have a baby while

young and unmarried.

Desiree (2011) found out that though there are many types and

brands of contraceptives and birth control pills easily available

in the market, most teenagers do not have adequate knowledge about

these and, hence, do not use them. Besides, these contraceptives

aids are not completely fool proof.

In the developing world, 74 million unintended pregnancies

occur annually, of which 30% are due to contraceptive failure

among women using traditional or modern contraceptive methods, a

significant proportion of all unintended pregnancies. Detailed

information on contraceptive failure rates is critical to inform

improvements in provision of contraceptive information, supplies,

and services, which can assist women and couples to use

contraception correctly and consistently.

Boado (2011) confirmed that Most Filipino parents avoid

talking to their children about sex. In some cases, they

discourage their children to participate in any informative

discussion about sex. Thus, most teenage mothers are not well-

educated about sex before getting pregnant due to lack of

communication between the parents and the children (what are the

causes of teenage pregnancy? , august 18, 2012).

In developed countries, teenage pregnancies are associated

with many social issues, including lower educational levels,

higher rates of poverty, and other poorer life outcomes in

children of teenage mother. Teenage pregnancy in developed

countries is usually outside of marriage, and carries a social

stigma in many communities and cultures. Many studies and

campaigns have attempted to uncover the causes of teenage

pregnancies

Foreign Studies

Manhart (2011) found out that Sex education is the provision

of information about bodies’ development, sex, sexuality, and

relationships, along with skills-building to help young people

communicate about and make informed decisions regarding sex and

their sexual health. Sex education should occur throughout a

student’s grade levels, with information appropriate to students’

development and cultural background. It should include information

about puberty and reproduction, abstinence, contraception and

condoms, relationships, sexual violence prevention, body image,

gender identity and sexual orientation. It should be taught by

trained teachers.

Republic of the Philippines
EULOGIO “AMANG” RODRIGUEZ INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Nagtahan,Sampaloc,Manila

Sex education should be informed by evidence of what works

best to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted

infections, but it should also respect young people’s right to

complete and honest information. Sex education should treat sexual

development as a normal, natural part of human development.

Alford (2010) said that this thesis was created to show how

sex education in Finland has changed, how events from the 1970’s

have affected our society, and which factors have modified the

understanding of the sexuality issues in Finland. The amount of

information when gathering the texts together surprised me, since

I thought I selected a topic that might have very little

literature of it; in some measure, I was correct. There is a lot

of literature about sexuality that is based on the society of

Finland today, but the amount of literature concerning the history

of it was not large.

The observation can be made that even though sex education in

Finland is flourishing, it can still be improved and become more

comprehensive. The time period this thesis is focusing on is the

time before the immigration boom in Finland. In the future, the

topics discussed in this thesis could be expanded to include a

multicultural point of view. As mentioned before, sexology is not

EULOGIO “AMANG” RODRIGUEZ INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Nagtahan,Sampaloc,Manila

included in the degree of bachelor of social services as a

compulsory study and therefore the need for sexology in different

degrees programmes could also be studied.

Davis (2011) found out that Comprehensive sexual health

education covers a range of topics throughout the student’s grade

levels. Along with parental and community support, it can help

young people:

Avoid negative health consequences. Each year in the United

States, about 750,000 teens become pregnant, with up to 82 percent

of those pregnancies being unintended. Young people ages 15-24

account for 25 percent of all new HIV infections in the U.S and

make up almost one-half of the over 19 million new STD infections

Americans acquire each year. Sex education teaches young people

the skills they need to protect themselves.

Communicate about sexuality and sexual health. Throughout

their lives, people communicate with parents, friends and intimate

partners about sexuality. Learning to freely discuss contraception

and condoms, as well as activities they are not ready for,

protects young people’s health throughout their lives. Delay

sexual initiation until they are ready. Comprehensive sexual

health education teaches abstinence as the only 100 percent

effective method of preventing HIV, STIs, and unintended pregnancy

– and as a valid choice which everyone has the right to make.

Dozens of sex education programs have been proven effective at

helping young people delay sex or have sex less often. Health-

related problems and unintended pregnancy can both contribute to

absenteeism and dropout.

Kirby (2012) found out that Comprehensive sexual health

education works. Research has repeatedly found that sex education

which provides accurate, complete, and developmentally appropriate

information on human sexuality, including risk-reduction

strategies and contraception helps young people take steps to

protect their health, including delaying sex, using condoms or

contraception, and being monogamous.

A 2012 study that examined 66 comprehensive sexual risk

reduction programs found them to be an effective public health

strategy to reduce adolescent pregnancy, HIV, and STIs.

Research from the National Survey of Family Growth assessed

the impact of sexuality education on youth sexual risk-taking for

young people ages 15-19 and found that teens who received

comprehensive sex education were 50 percent less likely to

experience pregnancy than those who received abstinence-only-

until-marriage programs.

Even accounting for differences in household income and

education, states which teach sex education and/or HIV education

that covers abstinence as well as contraception, tend to have the

lowest pregnancy rates.

Kohler (2010) stated that In the United States, education is

largely a state and local responsibility, as dictated by the 10th

Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This amendment states that

“the powers not delegated to the United States by the

Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to

the States respectively, or to the people.”[3] Because the

Constitution doesn’t specifically mention education, the federal

government does not have any direct authority regarding

curriculum, instruction, administration, personnel, etc. In 1980,

the U.S. Department of Education was created. While this move

centralized federal efforts and responsibilities into one office,

it did not come with an increase in federal jurisdiction over the

educational system.

In 2010, two streams of funding became available for

evidence-based sex education interventions.

PREP: The Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP)

was authorized by Congress as a part of the Affordable Care Act of

2010. PREP provides grants ($75 million over five years) for

programs which teach about both abstinence and contraception in

order to help young people reduce their risk for unintended

pregnancy, HIV, and STIs. In Fiscal Year 2012, 45 states applied

for PREP. PREP grants are issued to states, typically the state

health departments. All programs implemented with PREP funding are

to educate adolescents about both abstinence and contraception for

the prevention of pregnancy and STIs, including HIV/AIDS, and must

cover at least three adulthood preparation subjects such as

healthy relationships, adolescent development, financial literacy,

educational and career success, and healthy life skills.

The Real Education for Healthy Youth Act: While there is as

yet no law that supports comprehensive sexual health education,

there is pending legislation. The Real Education for Healthy Youth

Act introduced in February 2013 by the late Senator Frank

Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA), would

ensure that federal funding is allocated to comprehensive sexual

health education programs that provide young people with the

skills and information they need to make informed, responsible,

and healthy decisions. This legislation sets forth a vision for

comprehensive sexual health education programs in the United

States.

Methodology
Research Design

This study used the descriptive method research.

Descriptive research, also known as statistical research,

describes data and characteristic about the population or

phenomenon being studied. We used descriptive research to our

topic to explain and elaborate the variable and criteria that we

have choose. It is used to obtain information concerning the

current status of effects OD sexuality education on sexual

knowledge and attitude of college students nowadays. The main goal

of this type of research is to describe the data and

characteristic about what is being studied. Behind this type of

research is study frequency, average, percentage, weight mean and

statistical calculation of the data we gathered.

Population and Sample

Research Instruments

The study will utilize the following instrument gather this

needed data

 Survey questionnaires

This instrument is used to elicit personal information and the

needed data on the extend of the effectiveness of sexual education

in E.A.R.I.S.T. students. In this research the questionnaire

divided into respondents profile, gender, and response to the

knowledge, effectiveness of sexuality education and attitudes of

college students

Data Gathering Procedure

To ascertain the effectiveness conduct of this study the

following steps ate observe

1) We make a research study about the effects of sexuality

education on sexual knowledge and attitudes of college students

2) We will ask an approval to the dean of college of

business administration and to our professor Dr. Gapasin to

conduct a survey related to our study, effects of sexuality

education on sexual knowledge and attitudes of college students

3) We will conduct a survey to E.A.R.I.S.T. students and

inform our respondents about the purpose of the study, orient them

with the questionnaires and assure them that all response will

be with the most care and confidentiality.

4) Gather, Organize, and analyze the data we got from the

survey result

5) We interpret the data using the frequency, percentage,

weighted mean, and Likert scale, to obtain the result of the

gathered data.

Statistical Analysis Of data

1) Frequency and Percentage

A percentage frequency distribution is a display of data that

specifies the percentage of observations that exist for each data

point or grouping of data points. It is a particularly useful

method of expressing the relative frequency of survey responses

and other data.

Formula

P=F/N x 100

Where

P= Percentage

F= Frequency

N= Total number of population

2) Weighted Mean

This will be utilized to determine the extent of the effects of

sexual education as assessed by the responds

Formula

WM = Σ (w1f1+w2f2+wnfn)
N

Where

WM= weighted mean

F1= frequency on first cell

F2= frequency on second cell

W1= weight on first cell

W2= weight on second cell

N= number of cases

According to Andrade (inquirer, 2016 ) It’s not about sex,

but about matters that affect one’s personal safety, hygiene and

well-being. This, according to a Department of Education (DepEd)

official, was the primary aim of sexuality education in the K-12

curriculum, that detractors of the Responsible Parenthood and

Reproductive Health Law of 2012 (RH Law) have denounced for

supposedly teaching adolescents and grade-school pupils about the

sex act. Teaching age-appropriate sexuality education in public

schools is one of the provisions of the RH Law whose full

implementation President Duterte has pushed for.

state of our reproductive system at all stages of life. It does

not just include puberty but also enhancement of life and personal

relations with a weighted mean of 4.12 as rank 3.

Kempner (2013) confirmed that A lot of teenagers indulge in

early sexual behaviour due to peer pressure. In adolescence, there

is a great need to be ‘hip’ and ‘accepted’ by their circle of

friends. To be accepted, they may be encouraged to have a

boyfriend or girlfriend or to date and indulge in sexual acts

often.

According to estimates by the United Nations Population Fund,

more than 60 percent of Filipino women from 2000-2010 became

mothers before they reached the age of 20.Masilang said sexuality

education can be integrated in the curriculum either through

natural or purposive means. Natural integration means it would

as; Accepts and considers different gender roles present in the

society with a weighted mean of 4.06 as rank 2. Sexual education

can change the perception of a person in terms of sex with a

weighted mean of 4 as rank 3.

Desiree (2011) found out that though there are many types and

brands of contraceptives and birth control pills easily available

in the market, most teenagers do not have adequate knowledge about

these and, hence, do not use them. Besides, these contraceptives

aids are not completely fool proof
