Biotic Factors
Interactions between living beings can be divided in two types:
• Intraspecific : between individuals of the same species.
• Societies
• Colonies
Inharmonious
Intraspecific Competition: (-/-)
Competition is the ecological interaction in which the individuals fight
for resources (water, food, female, territory).
Predation:(+/–)
Interaction in which one individual kills another to get food.
Characteristics of Predators:
They may have developed claws, strong jaws, sharp teeth and strong,
curved beaks.
Camouflage
Mimicry
Commensalism (+/0)
Relation between two species in which one species obtains food or other
benefits from the other without either harming or benefiting it.
Mutualism: (+/+)
Ecological interaction in which both participants benefit.
(Eg: symbiosis- the lichens, formed by algae and fungus; the algae make
organic material for the fungus and absorb water with their help)
Eg: Protocooperation
The bee receives nectar with vital nutrients from the plant . The plant
receives courier service: the bee delivers pollen to other plants.
Parasitism (+/-)
A parasite is an organism that takes up residence in or on
a host organism and feeds on the host's body without killing it
immediately.
Amensalism: (- /0)
Amensalism is an ecological interaction in which an individual species
harms another without obtaining benefit.
• Eg: The penicillin (inhibitory species )is an antibiotic that inhibits the
growth of many species of bacteria (amensal species).
(gráfico pág. 93)-The graph below represents the growth of a population. When
the population is originally integrated in a specific ecosystem, there is a slow
growth; in the upcoming years, there is a fast growth; only then does it reach
balance and starts growing on an average level.
Fatores Abióticos
Luz:
Fototropismo
