1 GENERAL
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), hereby referred to as the OWNER
has awarded the contract to Brentex CPP Limited for the Engineering, Procurement and
Construction of Ajaokuta Kaduna Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and Stations Project (Seg-
ment 2) from Block Valve Station 12 (outer line of the fence) to Kano Terminal Gas Sta-
tion with a distance of about 318.66 km of the Trans Nigeria Gas Pipeline and stations.
The pipeline runs from BVS12 roughly northern towards Kano TGS as illustrated in Fig-
ure 1 below:

3.1 Definitions
PROJECT
Ajaokuta Kaduna Kano Gas Pipeline Project
SUBCONTRACTOR The party(s) which carries out all or part of the engineering,
design, survey and geotechnical investigation as specified
by the CONTRACTOR.

4 UNIT OF MEASUREMENTS
All dimensions, quantities and units of measurement used on drawings and in calcula-
tion sketches shall be given in SI Metric units.
5 REFERENCES
The documents shall be referred are shown in Table 5-1.

Local laws regulating the oil and gas industry shall be strictly adhered to. Guidance on
the statutory requirements for pipelines and its associated equipment (i.e. Pig Launcher
& Receiver) design, construction and operation should be obtained from the following
documents:
Oil Pipelines Act, Chapter 338, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 (describing
Permit To Survey requirements for pipelines in general)

8 GENERAL
This specification and the guidelines set forth do not relieve the Supplier or its Sub-
Suppliers of the responsibility to provide a finished product capable of performing its in-
tended service.
In the event of conflict between project documents and references made in the project
documents, the order of precedence shall be as follows:

Project specifications;
The Supplier shall operate a Quality Assurance system in accordance with ISO 9001 or
equivalent (latest edition), approved by a recognized authority. The Quality Assurance
Manual shall be submitted prior to the start of work.
Before the commencement of Pig Launcher and Pig Receiver manufacturing, the Suppli-
er shall prepare and submit a quality Control Plan which describes the inspections to be
performed during the supply of Pig Launcher and Pig Receiver. The Quality Control Plan
shall set forth “witness”, “hold”, and “review” points.
Major and minor barrel with eccentric reducer complete with all nozzles, quick
opening end closure, saddle supports, name plate, earthing lugs, etc.
Drip Pan/ Tray underneath of Quick opening end closure with nozzle
Spare parts for 2-year operation (Optional price list shall be submitted with bid)
As a minimum, below scope of services shall be considered for Pig Launcher and Pig
Receiver supply:

Preparation of all documentation and submission for review & approval (including
preparation of Comment Resolution sheet)
Preparation of inspection and test plan and procedure for inspection/ test
Third party inspection (TPI will be by Owner, however free inspection access and re-
quired documentation will be by Supplier).
The following shall not be part of the Supplier scope of works. However, it shall be part of
EPC CONTRACTOR’s scope of work:
All instrumentation such as Pressure gauge, Pig Signaler, PSV, PT, etc.

9 DESIGN BASIS
SI units shall be used in all relevant documents except for the pipe diameters where
inches may be used.
The Supplier shall handle at his own expense for all official inspections and all permis-
sions required by the valid regulations and shall arrange inspections and tests of DPR
(on request), Inspector or Third Party Inspection.
Pig Launcher and Pig Receiver shall be supplied by the Supplier qualified by experience
in manufacturing of proposed equipment. To qualify, the Supplier must submit records of
manufacture of similar Pig Launcher and Receiver, as designed in Project, to acceptance
by Owner. The Owner reserves the right to reject Supplier offer basing on Supplier man-
ufacture records.

Pig Launcher and Pig Receiver shall be designed for at least 25 years of operation.
Supplier shall be responsible for meeting all local laws and regulation of Nigeria.
For environmental condition, refer Process Design Basis, document number, 10481-
BCL-AKSX-PR-REP-0001.
9.2 Application
Used for the sending and receiving of pipeline pigs. Pig launcher and pig receiver shall
be designed to handle the following types of pigs:
Utility pigs as: cleaning pigs, sealing pigs, mandrel pigs, foam pigs; spheres-pig;
Detailed information which is not mentioned in this specification has been shown in the
related Datasheets.
Pig Launchers and Pig Receivers shall be designed in accordance with ASME B31.8.
Quick opening end closure shall be designed as per UG-35 of ASME Section VIII Divi-
sion 1. Other requirements for QOC shall be as per Specification for Quick Opening
Closure, Doc. No. 10481-BCL-AKSX-ME-SPC-0005.
Size of pig launcher & receiver shall be as per mechanical data sheet. However, to facili-
tate the insertion of pigs and spheres, the major barrel internal diameter shall be 4 inches
larger than the pipeline diameter.
Internal diameter of the minor barrel shall match the minimum inside diameter of the
connected pipeline.
The transition connection between major and minor barrels shall be eccentric.
Pig launcher and receiver are slopped for allow free drainage of liquid. Slope shall be as
per mechanical data sheet. However, as minimum, for launchers the barrel shall be
sloped (typically 1:100) down towards the drain outlet and for receivers the barrel shall
be sloped (typically 1:100) down towards the end closure to improve draining of liquids
from the barrel.
Carbon steel pressure-containing parts shall have carbon content not higher than 0.24%.
Carbon equivalent CEIIW shall not exceed 0.43%.
Pipes shall be SMLS or SAWL types. Spiral welded pipes are not acceptable.

Flanges shall be made according to ASME B16.5 for size up to 24’’ NB. For size more
than 24’’ NB, ASME B 16.47 shall be used.
All flanges connections shall be provided with spiral wound gaskets. Gaskets shall be
new and shall be delivered in accordance with ASME B16.20.
Supports saddles shall be designed to carry the weight of unit and its contents including
the total weight during hydrostatic test excluding the weight of an intelligent pig and all
other work case (including the weight of an intelligent pig).
Supplier shall evaluate for all nozzle connections attached to piping systems, the stress-
es in the vessel wall due to the piping loads combined with the pressure stress intensity.
Nozzle loads for the purpose of analysis are provided in Specification for Piping Stress
Analysis- Document Number: 10481-BCL-AKSX-PP-SPC-0003, Appendix-1. These local
stresses can be assessed using the method as indicated in WRC 537.
Any item which has not been mentioned specifically or otherwise within this document or
related datasheets, and is necessary and/or needed for the completion, safety, function-
ality, or operability of the relevant equipment or system is to be included in the Supplier’s
scope.
1) The maximum straightness deviation measured at the outside surface of the cylinder
from a straight line parallel to the vessel axis, shall not exceed 1.5 mm per 1000 mm
cylindrical shell length;
3) Nozzles:
c) Alignment: nozzle flange face max. ½ degree in any directions from the true ves-
sel axis and true radial center line,
d) Radial: +/-2 mm measured from reference center line to center line of nozzle;
Pig Launcher and Pig Receiver shall be provided with quick opening closure. The quick
opening closure shall be designed in accordance with ASME VIII Div. 1.

The closure shall be designed to allow a one-man operation for opening and closing of
the door. The quick opening closure of the Pig Launcher and Pig Receiver shall be split
clamp ring or bayonet type. The minimum opening angle shall be 135° (to allow pig
launcher loading and pig receiver unloading).
The quick opening closure shall be equipped with a safety system that allows opening it
only with the Pig Traps being totally pressure relieved. Safety system shall be Mechani-
cal Interlock Type and shall be in accordance with UG-35 of ASME Section VIII, Div. 1.
Safety interlock device shall be designed to make impossible to disengage the closure
operating mechanism while there is pressure remaining in the barrel.
Movable parts for quick opening end closure shall be non-spark material.
The quick opening closure shall be designed for 25 years of service life.
Supplier to also meet the requirements as mentioned in Specification for Quick Opening
Closure, Doc. No. 10481-BCL-AKSX-ME-SPC-0005.
Branch connections shall be as per Mechanical Data Sheet. However, as minimum, the
orientation of branches on the Pig Trap shall be as follows:
Vents, pressure gauges, purge connection, thermal relief and pig signaler: top quad-
rant of the pipe (at 0°position);
Kicker line, balance line and by-pass line: side of pipe (at 90°position).
Non-intrusive type (acoustic/ magnetic) pig detectors shall be used in pig launcher
and receiver in pipeline inlet stations.
Wind loads shall be considered as per Civil & Structural Design Basis (10481-BCL-
AKSX-ST-REP-0001) or as mentioned in Mechanical Data Sheet.
The wind forces will be calculated with a basic wind speed of 40m/s and an exposure
category of C or D according to ASCE 7-05 shall be considered. Topographic factor shall
be considered. For determining stresses, all vertical design loads, except roof live loads,
shall be considered to act simultaneously with the wind pressure.

10 WELDING REQUIREMENTS
No fabrication shall commence until the Supplier’s Quality Plan, fabrication procedures,
weld procedures and drawings have been reviewed by the Owner/ Third Party Inspector/
Sub-Contractor.
It is the responsibility of the Supplier to submit to the Owner all his sub-suppliers fabrica-
tion and welding procedures and to ensure these comply with contract requirements be-
fore submittal to the Owner.
Distance between shell seam weld and attachment weld shall not be less than shell plate
thickness or 20 mm minimum.
Nozzles to shell attachment welds are to be “set through” type with a full penetration
weld.
“Set on” type may be acceptable, by agreement, where back grinding and welding is not
possible and shall be subject to approval from Owner.
Nozzle bolt holes shall straddle the longitudinal center lines in plan and the vertical cen-
ter line in elevation.
Welding shall be done with procedures and operators qualified in accordance with ASME
Section IX or API 1104.
Fabricator Welding Procedure & Qualification records complying with the recommended
API 1104 or ASME Section IX shall be submitted, prior to start of work.

Repair of weld seams are only permitted provided their repair procedure has been ap-
proved by the Owner / Third Party Inspector.
11 PAINTING
The Pig Launchers and Pig Receivers shall be painted outside. Painting system and all
requirements, including finish color, shall be in accordance with 10481-BCL-AKSX-CP-
SPC-0001 (Specification for Painting and Coating).
DPR may witness the inspection of material at Supplier’s shop. Supplier shall deliver all
necessary documentation and requisite facilities / tools which will be required by DPR.
The Supplier shall provide Inspection and Test Plan (I&TP) and Quality Assurance Plan
(QAP) for review for acceptance.
Any approvals given by the Owner’s Inspector or the Third Party Inspection do not re-
lieve the Supplier of any responsibility regarding compliance with applicable standards
and regulations and this specification (unless a specification deviation is explicitly
agreed).
The Supplier shall submit his test procedures in writing to the Owner for approval prior to
the start of the testing program.
The Supplier shall inform the Owner about availability of goods for inspection and testing
4 weeks prior to their inspection.
The Launcher and Receiver shall be inspected and tested in accordance with this Speci-
fication and shall meet the requirements of ASME B31.8 and ASME Section VIII Division
1(for Quick Opening End Closure).
Inspection and testing shall be performed before any coating or paint is applied. Test
pressure gauges shall be of the direct reading type and shall be periodically calibrated.
The certificate of calibration shall be presented to the Inspector or nominated Inspection
Authority, prior to the commencement of tests.
After hydro testing, the launcher and receiver shall be completely drained and dried.

Functional tests shall be performed to demonstrate that closure door function satisfactori-
ly.
Pressure containing parts shall be impact tested, if required by design code or as men-
tioned in Mechanical data sheet. Impact test shall be made in accordance with ASTM
A370. The acceptance criteria shall be in accordance with related material standards
mentioned in datasheets.
Visual examination and other NDT shall be in accordance with requirements given in
ASME Code V and ASME Sec VIII Div. 1.
Test acceptance criteria shall be in accordance with API 1104 or ASME Section VIII, Div.
1.
13 MARKING
The Launcher and Receiver shall be marked. The text shall be durable and easily legible.
The text shall be in English language. The name plate material and the rivets shall be of
stainless steel.
All the equipment devices shall be designated according to the description given in data
sheets.
Supplier’s name;
Serial numbers;
Tag number;
Name of Equipment;
Design Code;
Design Pressure;
Design Temperature;

Materials of construction;
Corrosion allowance;
Hydrotest Pressure;
Year of manufacture.
14 CERTIFICATES
The material test certificates for pig launcher/ receiver’s wetted parts shall be as per cer-
tificate 3.1 in accordance with EN10204.
Dimension check shall be recorded in the report and certified at least by means of an ac-
ceptance test certificate 3.1 in accordance with EN10204.
Hydrotest shall be recorded in the report and certified at least by means of an ac-
ceptance test certificate 3.2 in accordance with EN10204.
All certifications of material, purchase specifications, material test data, WPR, heat
treatment records, quality-control tests and inspections records shall be kept for 15 years
and be available for the Owner on request.

16 SHIPPING
After testing, painting and preservation of pig launcher & receiver shall be adequately
protected for shipping such that handling damage during shipping is prevented. The
Supplier shall notify the Owner of the shipping date at least 2 weeks prior to shipment.
All documentation shall be sent to the Owner for approval before shipping of pig launcher
& receiver.
17 MECHANICAL GUARANTEE
All equipment and components parts shall be guaranteed by the Supplier against defec-
tive materials, design and workmanship.
The mechanical guarantee shall be in accordance with the general purchase conditions,
referenced standards and data sheets.
Supplier shall guarantee the equipment and component parts against defective material,
design and workmanship and for a period of 12 months from the date of successful
commissioning of the equipment or 18 months after the date of delivery at site or which-
ever is earlier.
If during the Warranty period any defect or non-compliance is found in the work per-
formed by the Supplier and such defect is verified to be attributable to the Supplier, then
Supplier shall at its own costs promptly correct and repair such defect or non-compliance
or, if necessary, replace the defective part of the work.
Upon discovery of the defect in the work, Sub-Contractor shall as soon as possible notify
in writing thereof.
Supplier shall guarantee rust prevention and provide suitable preventive measure of the
equipment during shipment and at least 12 months of storage at site.
