GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF

•India is lying entirely in the Northern Hemisphere.

•The main land extends between latitudes 8˚4΄N and 37˚6΄N and
longitudes 68˚7΄E and 97˚25΄E.

•The latitudinal extent influences the duration of the day and


Night,as one moves from south to north.

• The time along the Standard Meridian(82˚30΄E) is taken as the


standard time for the whole country.

 The Tropic of Cancer (23˚30΄N) divides the
country into almost equal parts.

Arabian Sea

 India is located in the centre between east Asia
and west Asia.
 The trans Indian Ocean routes which connect the
countries of Europe in the west and countries of
east Asia provides a strategic central location to
India
 The Deccan peninsula protrudes into Indian
ocean, helping India to have close contacts with
west Asia, Africa and Europe from the western
coast and with southeast and East Asia from the
eastern coast
 Indian Ocean gets its name from India since
India has a long coastline on this ocean.

of panchatantra and the decimal system spread
to many parts of the world.
 Similarly the influence of Greek sculpture,the
architectural styles of domes and minarates can
be seen in India.

China , Nepal and Bhutan in the

 Srilanka is separated from India by a
narrow channel of sea formed by the
Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar.

5. Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu is located at the
southernmost tip of India’s main land. The latitude 8°4’
N passes close to it. The place is thus near the equator
and lies close to the Equatorial region. As the sun shines
directly over the Equator throughout the year, the
durations of day and night are almost equal here.
Hence, in Kanyakumari, the difference in the duration
of day and night is very little.
