Power and Persuasion

The concept of power explained in the booklet is really confusing and hard to
understand. Therefore in my opinion the concept of power explained by two
words is impact and desire to act.

What I mean by impact is that people can affect you in many different ways. It
can be power over you in a good way but also in a bad way. What I mean by
desire to act is that there must be a dedication in the actions you carry out.
There are off course many different ways to explain what power is. But in my
opinion these are the 2 things it takes to act powerfully. I also think that this is
what power is for people in general and for me.

I do not find speeches entertaining, and sometimes even do not understand

the message behind these speeches. But there is one particular speech that
touched me and many people around the world. His words illustrated the
emotional side of inequality in the world, especially the inequality between the
African American people and the white people. I am of course talking about
Martin Luther King and his speech "I have a dream". Nor did his poetical words
only fight for the inequality between the races, but also how men and women
share the same worth.

As written in the second text in the booklet, this speech is one of the most
famous speeches in history. It gets to people because of three different
aspects. Number one is that he is being credible and has major eye contact
with the people he is conveying the message to which makes him very
trustworthy. Number two is that he has an emotional connection with his
viewers by using emotional words and heavy talking. The way he is speaking
really delivers the reality of the situation. Number three is that he is being
logical and reasonable with everything he talks about. All three aspects has a
common name and that is the unity of ethos, pathos and logos.

I agree, because the retail business acts upon whatever it takes to get us
individuals to consume. For instance they use big influencers for promoting
their products. It can be promoted on many different medias, for example
Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat. Many people looks up to these influencers,
especially young people, which leads them to consume whatever their role
model says. With this method, the retail business holds some sort of power
over us in the aspect of people listening to their role model in social media.
One example is some sites with their promotional code that they are offering
all the time in large percent to make your shopping way cheaper. The idea
behind this is to sell the clothes for a higher price, knowing that the consumer
will use the discount code so the shopping seems like smart shopping. But the
thing is that these clothes actually are worth the price you buy them for with
the discount code. They just sell them at first with a higher price in order to
give out discounts so the consumer sees the shopping as smart shopping. They
then buy loads of clothes thinking that it will be cheaper than it would be, but
actually will be worth the money because of the lack of good material and
letting them fool your brain and shopping instincts.

In order to change the world we live in, our future leaders need to know the
concept of consultation. We have already seen in history that there is lack of
consultation. Leaders use war as a solution to the problems we have. War is
not the answer, it is not going to make the world a better place. Both parts are
in need of an agreement in order to develop. Yes, we all know that people can
disagree with all this but by consultating with one another it will be easier for
the two parts to understand one another. This way maybe a solution will
appear that benefits everyone. We have reached a point of civilization, where
we have the capacity of required knowledge today to find solution to much
things. So why can’t we use this knowledge for development of mankind
People are today acting as if we are still living for a thousand years ago with all
the wars and hate towards each other. As I mentioned before, we have the
potential to develop our acts for a better understanding and a better world. But
in spite of this, people are not using our capacities.

We need to understand that we are all different, but we all live in the same
world and we all come from the same source.
