[Newsstand] Too Early To Judge A Marcos Jr.

The people’s judgments are subjective to the past- time and a chance is all he need
to prove them wrong

The criticism received by the late dictator’s son and the namesake former Sen.
Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. gradually rise after filing his presidential
candidacy in 2021 of October 6th angering activists. Filipino activists, some priests,
and the “Kakampinks”, Leni Robredo’s supporters, wants Marcos Jr. out of the
Presidential Race claiming he is not qualified due to his 1995 tax evasion
conviction, the issue of ill- gotten wealth and due to having poor credentials out of
his educational attainment.
A group of Filipino students from Oxford University stated that Ferdinand Marcos
Jr. did not have a degree underscoring the misinformation spreading the 2022
Presidential Election of Marcos Jr. having “Special Diploma” from the said
university. The group stated, “Bongbong Marcos did not finish his Degree. This
was officially confirmed by Oxford University in 2015 […] Bongbong Marcos has been awarded
a Special Diploma in Social Studies in 1978. A Special Diploma is not a degree, and neither is it
comparable, superior nor equivalent to one”.

[Newsstand] Marcos Jr. clarifies his

educational background

The scion, Marcos Jr., clarified the issue of his educational attainment asserting he
truly earned a diploma, not a degree. People are too quick to judge Bongbong
Marcos claiming he has lied about his educational attainment. There’s a huge
difference between “I earned a diploma” versus “I earned a degree”. People,
mostly activists and anti- Marcoses, assumed earlier even before and after knowing
the fact.

The Inquirer. Net revealed — “To set the record straight, my educational record as
posted in the Senate website and in my own official website is accurate,” Marcos
Jr. previously said.  “I earned a diploma in political science at St Edmund Hall,
Oxford University in England in 1978.”
The issue circulating Marcos Jr.’s educational attainment made other people doubt
of his credentials. One in many Facebook posts calls Ferdinand “Bongbong”
Marcos Jr. “bobo” or “stupid” for not having a degree.

I visited the official website of Marcos Jr. and his educational background is
accurate. This proved that he may not achieved a degree but he is a genius, he
acquired a level of education that molds his character as an individual with
integrity that even a graduate individual with a degree has failed to achieved.

Oftentimes, Bongbong Marcos Jr. also known as BBM mocked as “coward” for his
successive dismissal of Presidential Debate ousted by biased hosts of some TV
networks as his camp acclaims. In this, several questions frequently comes to my
mind. “Why would a Marcos Jr. skipped these kinds of debates or interviews?”
“Are the rumors true?” or “Is he afraid of face- offs?” These questions was
clarified by Marcos Jr. himself in one of his interviews stating, “Why would I
lower my standards when I already knew that the organizer or host of the interview
is biased and will ask the same questions again and again regarding the issues of
the past?”.

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. humbles himself despite of the cancellation he

received from his opponents’ supporters. The presidential candidate received so
much hate, criticism and rejection from other presidential candidates, yet when
asked by Boy Abunda of his opinion and reasons to not vote other candidates he
replied, “I do not indulge in negative campaigning…” He had an optimistic view
towards his opponents despite of their negative proclamations towards him. I had
two stands why it is so early to judge a Marcos Jr. based on the rumors,
misinformation or fake news spreading around targeting him.

Similar to Pres Duterte

Back on October 15, 2015, Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte files a certificate of candidacy
for presidency thru the help of now Sen. Bong Go. People then are quick to judge
of his character branding him as “walang modo”, “palamura”, and “mamamatay
tao”. There are many people who are afraid of him imposing a Martial Law which
was not done. The latest president was afraid and mocked by drug criminals and
corrupt officials of the government. Despite all of that negative comments about
him, the now President Duterte did not get affected and paved his own ways to
implement his own rules and regulations including the implementation of his
platforms to develop the country. Now, Pres. Duterte made a significant change to
the country, Philippines.

President Duterte’s past is similar to the present confrontations and happenings to

Marcos Jr. now. Bongbong Marcos Jr was judge for being the son of the late
dictator of the Philippines, accused of the ill- gotten wealth, judge for being
convicted due to tax evasion and for having no degree, yet, there are people who
still believe in Marcos Jr. and pushes him to serve.

Bongbong Marcos Jr. has been into public service for over 25 years. In that years,
he had made a great contribution at Ilocos Norte by making it into a first- class
province of international acclaim. Despite of having no degree, he became a
pioneer of the wind power technology in his province. He also made national
contributions by filing 52 bills, of which 28 were refiled from the 15 th Congress.
He authored and co- authored and sponsored the thirteenth (13) Senate Bills
enacted into Law.

There are many reasons not to judge Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. way too
early. One of those reasons is that he is supported by well- known professors who
are known as “terrors” when it comes to judgment of knowledge and character.
Among them are the late Dr. Meriam Defensor- Santiago and his former UP
professor, Dr. Clarita R. Carlos.

Many would try to degrade and belittle him, but the Lord God will uplift him, as to
what the prophecy of Nostradamus revealed.
