RADIO-BASED INSTRUCTION: ADDRESSING THE DIFFICULTIES DETERMINED IN
PRINTED MODULE AMONG GRADE 7 STUDENTS
The COVID-19 pandemic is a big challenge for education worldwide because education must be done
virtually to stop the spread of the COVID-19. The problem is that there are students who live in areas far
from municipalities, while learning. Diverse geographical conditions consisting of mountains, lowlands,
highlands, and valleys and some areas that far away make students difficult to connect to the internet.
These are referred to as remote areas.
“Hindi natin maikakaila na hindi mawawala ang mahalagang papel na ginagampanan ng radio sa
bansa sa paghatid ng edukasyon sapagkat hindi lahat ay may access sa internet. Kailangang accessible sa
lahat ng mga mag-aaral ang mga learning opportunities”, Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said.
Radio may be the best way to reach students during the pandemic and perhaps beyond. The Radio-
Based Instruction (RBI) program is one of the alternative learning delivery modalities using radio
broadcast to deliver the lesson using the student self-learning modules (SLM). As a form of distance
learning, it can expand access to education to students living in the countryside.
As one of the municipalities in the second district of Zamboanga del Norte that has a blended
modality of learning, our school is very fortunate that our municipality has a radio station that is
RADYO-KAHUPAYAN, DXNK FM 96.9.
It aims to provide learning opportunities to listeners as complimentary learning while using their self-
learning modules in the absence of actual face to face interaction. (http://lrm.deped.masbate.ph) Learners
from rural areas reached by radio frequencies benefited for their type of learning.
This Action Research aims to address the difficulties encountered by the students in Printed Module
through Radio-based Instruction. Specifically, it answers the following questions:
Hypothesis
2
There is no significant difference between the academic performance of the control group and
experimental group.
a. Intervention
Objective: The researchers used Radio-Based Instruction (RBI) in addressing the difficulties
encountered in Printed Module among Grade 7 students of Siayan National High School.
b. Strategy
The researchers use results of the assessments in determining the difficulties encountered in
printed module among Grade 7 students of Siayan National High School.
Sampling Method
This study shall employ total enumeration in choosing samples for Grade 7 students in Siayan
National High School.
The actual number of participants from the said school is shown below.
The nature of this action is experimental design. The instrument to be used in data analysis will
be the Control and Experimental Design. Pre-Test will be given before the intervention to determine the
level of comprehension among the participants.

The researchers would ask permission to the principal to conduct an action research study entitled
“RADIO-BASED INSTRUCTION: ADDRESSING THE DIFFICULTIES DETERMINED IN
PRINTED MODULE AMONG GRADE 7 STUDENTS”. The researchers need to collect data from
respondent who are the Grade 7 students of the school; your cooperation would be highly appreciated.

This action research aims to supplement the ability of Grade 7 students in answering the Printed
Module through Radio-Based Instruction (RBI). If this study will be proven effective, the researchers will
4
pass a recommendation to the principal, to intensify the implementation of RBI and to increase the
frequency of implementation. This recommendation will be supported by this Action Research.
