DETAILED LESSON PLAN

GRADE 9- MATHEMATICS
I. Objective
At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
o Illustrate the angle of elevation (M9GE-IVd-1)

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Angle of Elevation.
References: Curriculum Guide p. 317 (M9GE-IVd-1)
Grade 9 Math Learning Material pp.457-465
Grade 9 Math Teacher’s Guide pp. 16-20
Instructional Materials: Laptop/PC, PPT, Videos, Google Classroom, Google docs, Google meet.
Skills: Critical Thinking, defining, evaluating, calculating
Values Integrated: Cooperation

III. Procedures

A. Review (5 mins.)

Teacher’s activity Student’s activity

(Starting the Google meet) (Joining the Google meet)
Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am.
What was our last topic? Our last topic was all about the six trigonometric ratios: sine, cosine,
tangent, secant, cosecant & cotangent.
Alright! Who can define the six trigonometric ratios? Ma’am the six trigonometric ratios can be easily define when we use
the pneumonic SOH-CAH-TOA, and the three ratios in the right are
reciprocals of the ratios in the left.

Very well said! Glad you remembered.

B. Motivation (2 mins.)

Teacher’s activity Student’s activity

Class, in conjunction to that, please remember those formula for it will Okay ma’am.
be needed in solving problems to our next topic called the angles of
elevation.

C. Presentation of the topic (10 mins)

Teacher’s activity Student’s activity

(Screen Sharing—Presenting PPT)
The angle of elevation is the angle from the horizontal to the line of
sight of the observer to the object above. The Line of sight is an
imaginary line that connects the eye of an observer to the object being
observed (Bryant et al. 2014).
If a person stands and looks up at an object, the angle of elevation is
the angle between the horizontal line of sight and the object.

Understand? Yes Ma’am!

D. Lesson Proper (10 mins)

Teacher’s activity Student’s activity

Now, what is the angle of elevation? Ma’am, the angle of elevation is the angle from the horizontal to the
line of sight of the observer to the object above. So, if a person stands
and looks up at an object, the angle of elevation is the angle between
the horizontal line of sight and the object.
Great! who can illustrate to me the angle of elevation? (The student took a picture of the sketch of the illustration he made and
starts presenting it through screen-sharing in google meet)

Very good! Notice that the imaginary line that connects the eye of an
observer to the object being observed is called Line of sight.

(Screen Sharing—Presenting PPT) Answers may vary

Now, I want you to illustrate the information in the given problem (students start presenting their answers through google meet screen-

answer). Your answer may vary depending on your task/problem
given. I will give you 8 minutes to answer. Present your answer
through screen-sharing.

Student 1. The angle of elevation of the top of the building from a

point 30 meters away from the building is 65°.
Student 2. Two points on the same side of a tree are 19.8 meters apart.
The angles of elevation of the top of the tree are 21°from one point and
16° from the other point.

Now, you are ready to apply your learning in real-life situation. 1.

Illustrate and solve the following problems. Use the template below. I
believe 10 mins is enough to answer. Pls. send your answer in our Draw the diagram

G. Generalization (5 mins)

Teacher’s activity Student’s activity

Okay, what is the angle of elevation? Ma’am the angle of elevation is the the angle from the horizontal to the
line of sight of the observer to the object above.

Very good! Now who can illustrate the angle of elevation? (the student starts sketching and presenting the angle of elevation)

Take a picture of the sketch of the illustration and start presenting it

through screen-sharing in google meet.

IV. Evaluation (10 mins)

Teacher’s activity Student’s activity

Illustrate the following problems. I’ll give you 10 minutes to answer.

Please send you answer in our Google Classroom.

1. From the top of the control tower 250 m tall, an airplane is sighted
on the ground below. If the airplane is 170 m from the base of the
tower, find the angle of depression of the airplane from the top of the
control tower.
2. From an airplane at an altitude of 1200 m, the angle of depression to
a rock on the ground measures 28°. Find the horizontal distance from
the plane to the rock.
V. Assignment

Teacher’s activity Student’s activity

Now, to deepen your understanding. Illustrate and solve the

problem. Kindly send your answer in our Google Classroom.

Problem: A tower is 15.24 m high. At a certain distance away

from the tower, an observer determines that the angle of
elevation to the top of it is 41°. How far is the observer from
the base of the tower?
