Home Management is part of


Family life. It is all about managing
family resources so that the needs and
wants of each member is met and
satisfied. Parents are not the only ones
with the responsibility for managing the home. Everyone must be aware of
their duties and roles in this endeavor. Every member of the family has an
important role to play in effective home management. Sharing one’s skills,
attitudes, and knowledge makes the work easier and more effective.
Household activities should be managed properly to lessen unnecessary
labor and help speed up work and reduce stress.

Family resources are those that the family possesses and uses in
home-making activities in order to resources include anything tangible and
intangible that help provide for the needs of its members. Like any other
resources, these are limited and family members need to work to sustain
them.
Types of Family Resources
 Human Resources: capabilities, intelligence/knowledge,
skills, talents, strength and energy
 Material Resources: tangible assests such as house and lot,
furniture and appliances, jewelry, automobiles and cash
 Non-material Resources: time, health and experiences

Tips in Managing Family Resources


 Use energy and time properly.
 Know how to budget money.
 Know how to use and take care of appliances and other
materials.
 Adapt a cheerful and positive attitude towards work.
 Assign responsibilities.
Make good use of community facilities

Effective use of resources starts with the home manager. The


members of the family are in turn, taught how to make use of
these resources in the most economical and effective way
possible.

From a home-
centered life to a
life practically
spent outside the
house. They
spend more time and activities outside. This explains
why mothers spend their time outside, earning a living
to help the father earn a living. As a result, family
income has become bigger and so are family
expenses. No matter how big or small the family
income is, the important thing is to make both ends
meet. This means balancing the income and
